Our current intinerary calls for a trip from
Innamincka to Tibbooburra in one day (350-400k). Early October.
A number of posts on this
forum have suggested the
Bore Track however I get the impression we might be pushing it to take that route in the day.
The alternatives are Strzelecki and Old Strzelecki or combination of both or 3.
We have 2 very
well equipped 4x4 vehicles both with off road camper trailers.
Whilst we don't just want to get there (Its the journey rather than the destination) does anyone have advice regarding the best route to meet the following goals:
1. Interesting things to see - scenery etc..
2. Nice
places to stop for meals etc..
3. Giving us a reasonable chance of making Tibbooburra before dusk.
We are not fixated by tibbooburra as the destination it just sets us up for the last 2 day trip to
home (Melb).

Easy run down the
Bore Track, did it in 2002, had lunch at Camerons Corner and we camped at
Fort Grey rather than going strait to Tibbooburra, got into there about 3 pm

Gary
Its a long drive for 1 day but can be done.
We did it in june this year, Did not leave
Tibooburra until 11 am lunch at the corner and an overnight stop on the
Bore track.
If you have to do it in 1 day I would suggest the Strez track as it is fast dirt all the way

There is always across to
Nappa Merrie and then South East down to Naryilco and then south to
Tibooburra. Want to look at that myself for September. Booloo area may be of interest......Will get some more info on that one myself. The main run down the Old Strz and around past Camerons is efficient but nothing special IMO.

Gary,
I did the Innaminca to
Tibooburra trip last year (July) easy in 1 day but stuck to the Strezlecki (dirt hwy), had a cuppa & break at the Moomba
lookout, had lunch before we got to the corner, not an awful lot too see except maybe some
wildflowers and a few gas rigs nth of Moomba. We saw a guy driving an old ford laser on the bollards lagoon track, but it was being graded at the time, just look out for oncoming traffic getting closer to the corner as there are lots of smallish dunes close together.

We did
Innamincka to
Broken Hill in a day last October via the
Bore Trak. Had a lengthy stop in Tib and then another down the road to find a geographic location on the GPS (Hi Steve).
Arrived in BH after dark but that is
home the beds were already made and we had the Pizza delivered.
Inn to Tib should be pretty easy day.

Forgot to mention that most people in town who have driven both routes consider the
Bore Trak to be about 3hrs quicker than going around via Strez.

Hi Gary,
No matter what way you decide to go if there is any rain be prepared for a slower trip.
Cameron Corner is worth a visit if only for a coldie & they serve meals or snacks there all day.
