Hi Locallaw,

I had a set of Hurricane extractors and 2 1/2" system fitted to my 80 series 1HZ. It made a notable difference right across the rev range. As the 80 std doesn't have a tacho, I ended up sticking a piece of paper with max revs per gear as the extractors now allowed the motor to actually rev.

Originally I had a sports muffler installed with a hotdog, but it was too loud for my liking. The installer said I would lose the power by going back to a standard muffler(with hotdog). However, there was no loss of power, only a significant quieting of the exhaust.

When I had my engine dynoed after new injectors a short time later, it had ~8KW more power than a standard 1HZ according to the mechanic. As for oil consumption, I never noticed any oil being used, but did oil changes every 5,000kms anyway.

Others have reported no gain in power when installing extractors, but I did find a significant improvement, particuarly noticeable when towing my van. However, when I got my GU 3.0TD Nissan, it made the 1HZ (even with extractors) look positively asthmatic, just no comaprison at all.

Cheers

Captain
