What do you think
for my Pajero, mainly towing caravan, but reservew the right to go on rough roads (you know
Kangaroo Island roads). 265 X 70 X 16
Kuhmo 825 $190
Toyo OPAT $225
Hankook RA03 $180
Yokahoma Geolander $258
My brother raves over Hankook, apart from that their just black round thing.
Any ideas before I blow me dough.

I have a 96 pajero.
Currently running Toyo OPAT, but LT235/85/16 10 ply, and no problems.
Good allaround grip, but are AT after all.
Havn't tried the Kuhmo, Hankook or Yokohamas.
How do you find the 265/70/16 in the wet?
Always found tyres that wide a little prone to aquaplaning on wet bitumen, but then I run high tyre pressures too.

Only had it for 12months 18,000km and have noticed it skips (squeals) around corners but seems ok in the wet. I run std tyre pressures (under 30psi)

Formerly had 2 sets of kuhmos on 2 x vehicles & they are Ok. Used to tow the camper trailer behind the Raider, & then the Patrol on Kuhmos.
But when I moved to Toyo Opats, they were better on dirt & quite OK on bitumen.
They will do more K's for me than Kumho's.
Best of all is they are either 8 or 10 ply (you choose) - this means thay are heaps more puncture resistant.
Your price appears to be pretty sharp on the Opats.
All that said, when next purchasing tyres, will try the Cooper ST's

Thanks for the input, but what do you infer about the price of the OPATS? expensive or cheap?

We also do a mix of highway cruising and dirt roads with a van. The Dunlop Grandtreks have lasted 30,000 - 35,000 Km, I don't intend to replace with the same. It seems that the cost of some of the more reputable tyres for our Prado 265/70/16 aren't that much more than the list you suggested.
Had good reviews from mates about Cooper. After much investigation have decided on Cooper A/T @ $ 259 each.
Another top contender is the Goodyear Wrangler A/T.

I have had the Cooper STs on for the last 20,000 km and they have been very good on sand and gravel. I recently put the original Michelins back on and I was surprised at how much better they handled on the road, and at the improved wet grip (it finally rained). If I were looking at the Cooper I think for your application I'd look at the All Terrain rather than the Sure Track. The chunky tyres look the goods, but I suspect for practicality they have more limited application than most people use them for (ie a lot of Cooper STs and BFG ATs etc spend a lot more than 20% of their life on the bitumen)

Thanks for all the tips, I've booked in to get Cooper AT because the guy guaranteed them for 60,000 with free rotation every 5000.
At $270 each I hope Ive made the right decision.
Thanks all for the input.

Got those on the Prado and am very happy after 9,000kms.
Virtually no signs of wear or chipping or cuts after some roughish dirt/stone roads (esp Flinders trip!)
Tread depth has gone down by 1 to 1.5mm from the original 11mm.
