G'day everyone,
have discovered that my 83 hilux has cracked the rear diff housing, there is a fairly big hole there (i can get my finger in it" as
well as a crack that follows the weld around, i am not really sure on what the best thing to do here would be,would it be ok just to replace the housing, assuming that nothing has gotten into the diff itself,or should i be doing something else?i have no idea about these sort of things so any help would be great, the location of the crack is just past the brake drum, and there is a U bracket next to it,how difficult is the housing to remove? i have taken out the axels before but have never attempted to remove the housing, does the whole lot have to come off from end to end or is the just one part that comes away?
thanks very much
rob

Had a cracked housing (hairline) on my tojo. I just took it directly accross the road to the roo bar and tow bar manafacturer and he welded it up - didnt even need to drop the oil. cost $20. If it is 2 bad a new housing shouldnt be to dear (toyota not dear?) as there must be plenty of 83 hiluxes sitting round in wrecking yards with stuffed diffs which the wrecker sells as boat anchors stuffed diffs are common stuffed housings far less so

the last diff i had with a crack i just welded it up.
but i am a welder with experence . and have jigs that hold the diff straight when i am welding it . i mostly do caster mods on front diffs .
but if you were to e-mail me i most likly have one or 2 laying about.
i know i have heaps of front diff housings .

if i sell you a diff housing it will be as a privite sale .
as a business i only sell new parts or do mods.
also i might have some contacts with some in other states. as i am in qld .
