No, not the usual question. I already have the system in place.
Just a question regarding connecting the cable from the isolator back to the alternator. What is the best method?
Options are to just stick it in the battery lug on the +'ve side of the original battery, cut into the cable between the alternator and the original battery and clamp here, or join closer to the alternator????? Anyone that has a "professional" system fitted, what method did they use? Any thoughts appreciated.

Mate,
mine is not a "professional" system, but I charge a 17 plate 760cca starter and a 80amp/h deep cycle without any dramas.
I used a 4 guage battery terminal cable from the isolator to the origional cable (the batterys used to be in series) which then goes to the positive side of the starter battery. Works fine, I get equal readings off my digital volt meter from one battery to the next when charging, even at idle and even with the 4amp continous 44L waeco cooler sucking the life out of my entire electrical system! LOL
When I first put the system in, I only ran 8guage from the origional wiring to the isolator and found that I had about a .1 voltage drop on the aux battery, 4 guage is the way to go, but connecting to your positive on your starter should not be a problem.

Jeff,
How did you join the terminal cable and the original cable. That is the main thing I am trying to work out. Will be using arc welding cable rated to 300amp so no loss and they act as instant jumper leads when both batteries connected. Thanks for the reply

Rolande, I just fitted a lug to the cable end and added it to the cables on the battery connection, I use the 300amp cables too and it fitted and works fine, I wouldnt try and splice/clamp into any original cables, just use existing connection points, get a longer bolt for the battery clamp if needed.

Bonz,
Thanks, after looking at it again that's exactly what I will do. Have measured cables and will be getting them made up during the week at the local repair
shop. Just got a bit confused by the wiring diagram in the isolator box.

Rolande, I just used a bolt and washer and bolted the cables together, then insulated them.

BEST method, is to do exactly as instructed by the manufacturer of the Isolator!
