We bought a new one a couple of years ago, it is great. If the second hand one is in good nick it sounds like a good deal, the people at Campomatic are good to deal with, you don't see many on the second hand market.

We are in the market for a camper trailer and we had shortlisted the Camp-o-matic (CoM) with two others. The Cape York and the Ozzie Swag. If you were ordering a new CoM is there anything you would say that after experience you wish you had done at the time you ordered it. For example an owner of an Ozzie Swag said they umd and ard over a slide out draw under the bed. They eventually put one in and were glad they did.
One small thing I am sceptical about on the CoM are the latches holding the top down. They only have two catches each side whereas everyone else has three and their catches appear to be a bit flimsy. It appears to be an important issue in respect to dust and water proofing. Any comment?
We are going to hire a CoM in November for a couple of weeks to see if we really want to go down the camper trailer path as nearly $30,000 is a big investment.

I hired a com last Feb to travel down south via Bourke. down to Mt Gambier, great Ocean road, across to gippsland Up to Locola and across country to Omeo via a track through private property that I know then across to the Snowy river and up to Jindabyne and up to the Gold coast on top of the range. Four weeks of travelling nearly everyday.
Did a wheel bearing 100 km's east of Bourke and had trouble getting a replacement.
Told that the particular type was not easy to get( this was a new COM).
Also when you are travelling every day you need a quick and easy cover over the pull out drawer. Pain in the arse trying to put the annex up in the rain. But a short annex just over the entry and drawer would be real easy to fit.
Apart from that it is fabulous I have looked at other brands since the trip and reckon this is the best by far.
The other problem was the spare wheel open lock. the pin can take a fair beating even if you are gentle with it we broke ours and had to get a replacement.
If you want a second hand one talk to campermatic they seem to be co operative people and offered to keep an eye out for one.
Pity I can't afford one, but then I think it is better to hire one if you arn't doing a long period trip certainly cheaper in the long run to rent for the annual holidays

Hey Stubby,

There's no way I would be paying $11k for a ten year old camper! Have a look at what's new for about that much. Yoiu might be surprised.

Bought a Camp-O-Matic 5 years ago that was 12 months old. It is the "Converter" model. Don't think they make it now. My opinion of the Camp-O-Matic is that it is EXCELLENT. I have made a lot of modifications to it such as full annex, more storage boxes, extra spare wheel, etc. I only paid $8300 for it back then and they were about $17,000 new at the time. I have towed mine about 50,000Kms since I bought it but very little of that was on rough roads. Now that I have a 4WD (Terracan) I intend to take it in some out of the way places in the future. Never had any trouble with it at all. I get the bearings adjusted after each big trip and have only just had them replaced after 50,000 Kms. Also a new set of tyres on it as well.
I am probably biased towards the Camp-O-Matic as I have been extremely happy with mine but there are so many good campers around nowadays I would shop around and definitely rent one for a weekend and find out for yourself.
At $11,000 it would depend what came with it such as a full annex, kitchen, etc. I can tell you that mine is about 6 years old and I would want at least $12,000 to $13,000 if I was selling it now. I don't intend to sell it as yet but for what is on mine I think it would be worth that, so for $11,000 you might be getting an excellent buy.
I have seen camper trailers at the Camping Shows for around the $6,000 to $7,000 mark and really all they are are a tent on top of a 7 x 4 trailer. There are some well built ones but there is some rubbish out there believe you me.
Anyway I am one very happy Camp-O-Matic owner and I do not have any tie up with them at all. Just happy with an excellent product.
Cheers
The Bigfella

When we bought our Campomatic, we got the underbed drawer which is a must, we share that for our clothing the annexe walls go under the drawer the annexe roof is stored on the other side so it is easier to get in and out when needed. We also got an extra 60lt water tank fitted which is necessary when remote travelling so you don't have to foul up drinking water. We have the full annex but I wish I had had a zipper sewn along just above the windows there is a flap which you could put up a smaller awning for overnight stops and the weather didn't look to good, I think the Aussie Swag has one on the other side of there camper so it can be done. I'm working on it now, we also got the interspring mattress which is worth every penny. We didn't go for the all out awning, ours doesn't go over the A frame I think Geff said it was equivlent to the 99 model they use to sell, less canvas to handle. We didn't go for the electric water pump just the pump one as I thought it is just another thing that can break, but we broke the pump one of anyway as it wasn't closed one time when pushing the kitchen in, but it was easily fixed.
