Hoping some one can help me with this one.

Brother in law has a 60 series Sahara Diesel and when he turns the ignition on the Glow Plug Light comes on. This is as expected. After the light goes out the engine is difficult to start, but when it does the Glow Plug Light comes on again for about 10 secs and then goes out.

Is this normal for a really cold engine or is this a sign of something about to fail?

Thanks in advance.

I too have a 60 series diesel Sahara. Firstly don't take any notice of the glow plug light when you switch the ignition on as they will go out before the primary glow plugs are heated up. Look at your volt meter and when you hear a click under the dash you will see the needle rise from about 8 volts to about 11 volts, then hit the starter. You will find it will start straight away. A while after the engine has started the volt meter will go to 15 volts after the secondry plugs have stopped glowing .The glow plug relay on these stuff up on the time light and they are not cheap to replace. there is no way that my engine will start if I try to start straight after the light has gone out. Hope this fixes your problem.

as mentioned the module that controls the g p is about 5-600 (maybe 1/2 that from a wrecker) Mine stuffed up and It was cheaper to repace it with a manuel button. You could also have stuffed glow plugs which is a cheaper fix. A multi meter should determine if your plugs are getting powere or not otherwise take it to a sparky (ps I am happy with my manuel button as you can give it xtra glow if it is stone cold)

Gday Tony ,

have had the same problem and seen it on others .

l too start mine by watching the volt meter.

l have seen where the power goes onto the rail at no 6 plug that a poor conection will create a high resistance and not let all that power go to the plugs .

Cleaning all of the points of contact is a cheap place to start
