How do taller drivers find the Landcruiser 100 series (GXL)? Leg and head clearances.
Has anyone found it necessary to fit one of the better
aftermarket seats and assuming it can be done, which is best value for money?
Am in SE Qld.
Thanks in advance.

How tall? I'm 180 cm and even with the sunroof Headroom / legrrom has never been an issue.
Probably best you go and sit in one before buying from a website though.... ;)
Cheers,
Pete

Thanks,
6'3", not much room under steering wheel.
Suppose it's a bit different when you've been at the wheel a bit longer.

I thought it was a bit cramped on entry, tighter under steering wheel than ideal, but maybe the
seat settles more when driving and I need a longer run at the wheel.
I am concerned too about the wretched back I've been getting from some work cars (Commodore especially).
I am buying a new GXL auto dt in the new year. If present owners are finding the seats provide enough support without lumbar adjustment then I'll be saving $.
At least insofar as front seats are concerned there could be a remedy if required.

I don't have any problems either with head room or leg room. You can tilt the steering wheel up to gain extra room. only issue I have sometimes is clouting spotties switch with my knee when getting in sometimes. A rocker switch will fix the problem when I break the existing one.
Seats are OK too although I have heard that you can have an inflatable lumar support fitted to your existing seats at a fraction of the cost.
I know what you mean with the dunnydoor seats LOL

I'm 6'7" and 110kgs and fit into my TD with ease. I did have to remove the grab handle from the drivers side, above the door, because I would hit my head on it when the going got rough. The other annoying point is I wish my 5'10" wife would learn to drive with the
seat, steering wheel and rear vision mirror in my position. The only thing we don't need to readjust is the wing mirrors. You'd have to be pretty hefty to be uncomfortable in a 'cruiser.
Cheers

Perhaps the steering wheel could have been adjusted too low on the one i was in.
Thanks for the comments.

Am 6'3" and keep hitting the grab handle above the door.
Know of another who had the
seat base lowered in order not to hit the roof he's not as tall but longer in the body
As the others have said take it for a test
Regards
Jaap

Did you check steering wheel adjustment - maybe it was on lowest setting?

Moose,
I didn't
check. But I will be taking the advice to have a longer
test drive and will
check it then.

ev,
Am 6'2" and find that there is plenty of adjustment left. You'd have pretty fat thighs if you couldn't fit under the s'wheel at its highest. The 100 series is a work vehicle, and is good to drive, and quite comfortable. Just a bit gutless when you've stepped out of the 79 series turbo!
To improve the seating in our 80 series, we got a pair of inflatable lumbar supports fitted by Motorcare in
Bowen Hills. Made a big difference for long distance work.
Hooroo...

Bob V
That is good news about the blow-up lumbar supports. Possible cost??
After a trip to the coast in a Commode (sic) I feel like a geriatric - back is *&(*&%* painful.

ev,
Can't find the invoice for the lumbar supports, but think it was less than $300 pr.fitted.
Try Motorcare site. www.motorcare.com.au, may have price there.
See ya,

Nope, going to get a Cruiser for sure, even if I have to fit a lower profile drivers
seat. But from the comments from my esteemed & worthy colleagues I probably haven't got properly acquainted with the
seat as yet;>)

I am 6'2" and don't have a problem with the roof or leg room. I find it very comfy and have driven up to 18hrs with 2 breaks with no dramas, but then everyone's back is different and we all have varied support requirements. I think ALL vehicles could use different seats customised to our individual requirements.
The only problem I had with height was when I had first installed my centre roof console and would hit my head when getting in - got used to it being there now and no longer an issue.

Thanks very much everyone for taking the time to reply. You all certainly set my mind at ease. Good tips on the grab handle and on blow up lumbar support too.
Way I see it now is that the seats will probably be OK and probably the adjustment was out. I am probably a longer in the back though as
well.
But in any event, if i desire it, there are lower profile seats available.
Thanks fellas.

Hi ev700
A very good question and a issue that is as frustrating as trying to buy long trousers.
I have a 100 that is two years old and I am 6' 6. I regularly drive
Weipa to
Cairns, 9 hours in the drivers
seat and do not feel cramped or uncomfortable at all.I have the standard seats but did get a custom made set of lambs wool covers which gives a little more padding.
The only other thing that i find more comfortable to drive is my 2.4 million dollar mining truck which i also sit in for long hours..
I hope you your new auto 100 when you get it as i would not change
mine for the world now.Except on a new one. I can also vouch for the ARB bullbars as i hit a bull head on last week with very little damage to car and just sore ribs for the beast.
loving
Cape york.
Weipaboy.
