Has anyone done it?
Does it work ok?
If not can anyone put me on to someone who can put on gas or a Long range
tank behind the rear axle of my 2000 se wagon.
PS: I have "60mm lift thanks to ARB and old man emu, cooper all terrains and it transforms the vehicle.

Mine is booked in in late Sept.

Thanks,
Sounds like ARB have a LR
Tank. There is space up under the rear aplenty....where I think the spare was supposed to go.
I am interested in Gas still before I commit.
The Fronty v6 engine is similar to Rodeo and Jackaroo and I've seen them on Gas.
Sounds like Poly air are a goer also as I have a Jayco camper.
Now any advice on a neat fitting second battery set up? There seems room under the bonnet passenger side.
Great
forum.

Just a note on my 2002 Fronterra Wagon. I have had a long range ARB
tank (80L) fitted to my Fronterra wagon plus the ARB 60mm lift kit. I found though, that when the draws, compressor, Aux battery, tools, tucker and fridge were all in the back the
suspension lost about 20mm. This in itself is no big deal, but as they are progressive springs I found that loss of this 20mm made the car more prone to "spring binding" when pushing it hard up lumpy sand hills. Since then I have fitted Air Bags (POly Air) and the difference is fantastic (very easy to install on the Frontera too). The car handles better, no binding and keeps level when towing the camper. I found the air bags had to be inflated to 14psi on the passenger side and 9psi on the drivers side to level out the car (Max 30psi) . (This has to be reduced by about 4psi if corrugations make the car slide un-necessarily too.) All in all a good setup for "pretend" 4WDing.

Strawb.
How much did ARB charge you for the long range
tank?

Hi Vince From memory the ARB
tank cost around $1,100 fitted. It is manufactured by a mob in
Perth.

Thanks guys.
I'll get some Poly airs as that much is certain.
The only question unanswered from that lot is LPG or long range tanks so I'll suss out the LPG capability.
Sounds like some have fitted some neat add ons like drawers, Top carriers,
water shields but I have not heard about
snorkel.
Any recommendations on best :
Drawers
Top carriers
Water shields
VHF Radio (also where you installed it).
Has anyone fiddled with the computer ? Similar to LSedit for things like shift holds (auto) and engine optimisation.
I am off to the west at end of year and want to get set up.

Email me and I will send you some photos of my set up. LPG is not recommended by Holden. Something to do with the variable valve timing "I THINK". I have a long range
tank from Out of Town 4WD at
Newcastle. Good people to deal with. Cannot find a
snorkel for the Frontera.

Hi Gibbo, nice to see that there are other Frontera's around. We have had our 2000 model SE since new and been very pleased with it (63000 k's)
Had a second battery fitted in Jan this year by BOAB 4wd at Lawnton (QLd) after being told it couldn't be done. Fits in fine behind air box with plenty of room but need a lower profile battery.
Mine is an ordinary cranking battery (75 amp hours) and runs our 40L Engel and flouro lights no problem.
Original yokohamas lasted 61000 and have been replaced by Simex road trek which seem ok so far. Rear shocks seem to be on the way out and will upgrade
suspension next.
Have been running a Hyclone and Finer Filter for about 3 years now and Fuel seems to be good on long trips.
Hope this helps with your battery question.

Great. Very under rated vehicle. I had my SE since new same as yours and Love it.
Done 67k's and replaced Yoky's at 40k with Cooper AT ....they are fantastic tyres and worth the dollars.
Did ARB Old Man Emu 60mm lift ($900) and can thoroughly recommend it. Changes the vehicle dramatically for the better.
Bought Isuzu rodeo boot liner, cargo blind and centre arm rest from the US and the arm rest is particularly good.
Got the full genuine workshop manual set....3 volumes so need anything looked up lets know.
Can you tell me about the air filter and hyclone please as I want to do that but do not want to compromise wade depth/
water issues nor mess the car up. Photo???

Hi Gibbo, Don't know if Hyclone works or not but the car seems to run better and when first installed gave slightly better fuel economy. Finer Filter simply replaces paper filter and can be washed and reoiled when required. Don't think it makes car run any different but is convenient in dusty conditions. Had my car back to Holden dealer last month as wouldn't engage 4wd. $460 later they changed a computer module but didnt fix it. after having it for another week they fixed the actuator ( don't know what that is) and now seems fine. The reason for this story is that I discovered filter oil in bottom of air box as filter was over oiled (by me) and wondered if this could somehow cause problems with 4wd system. Sounds stupid even as I write this but you never know with cars.
I don't have a
snorkel and not sure if you can fit one.
I can send any photos of car you want but not sure which part you require. aux battery?
Interested in your
suspension set up as Frontera original is terrible. Would like car to handle better on road. any ideas.

Evo,
1. The Old Man Emu
Suspension upgrade changes the vehicle outa this world. Best investment at $900 Installed by ARB. 60mm lift.
I fitted new Coopers and unlike the Original Yokahamas and old set up there is no feathering on the front tyres.
Consists of 4 OME Gas Shocks, two new Heavy duty progressive rate longer rear Springs, wind up the front Torsion bar to suit.
Now while the torsion bar thing reduces the extreem limit travel a little I've had no issues at all. What you do get is the bar at it's sweet spot and not the stock soggy std setting.
No more belly crawling and great onroad handling to match the power.
2. Got a Hiclone today and while early days it seems a little more perky and may be smoother.
3. I am chasing a sacond battery set up for behind the air box that fits
well so any clues would be appreciated.
4. Re your dealer....and 4wd.....HMMMN they jumped to a new Computer first and it sounds like a simple mechanical actuator switch at fault. The actuator can be tested for correct operation independant of the ecu.
The Actuator is a solenoid that acts on the computer (ECU) command controled by the dash switch to switch to 4wd. ie: connects the gearbox driveshaft output to the front drive shaft. The ecu does this based on several inputs first being the 4wd dash switch but also front Axle position sensor (synchronisation), Engine Vacuum, Vehicle Speed etc from main Computer.
One would think that would be checked before replacing the ECU as it is the first step in going 4wd. Checking the official workshop manual there is detailed step by step diagnostics that says check the actuator ....(not replace ecu) in that order. Duh!
Having said that the Actuator prolly cost $400 anyway.

Thanks Gibbo
Suspension set up sounds fine and I will probably go with ARB. Wasn't going to do torsion bars but you may have convinced me.
You are right about our Holden dealer,
well known around this area for incompetence but had no choice that time. 4wd is still working though.
Havn't had a chance to take any photo's of battery set up just yet.
How is hyclone going? Any improvement in fuel? can you tell me where you got parts from in USA? also web site
