Hi Bruce,

First of all, talk to your dealer. When that doesn't work, ring Nissan Australia (get a customer reference number) and explain the problem. When they ask you to contribute a % to costs, politely say no. Keep pushing them, remind them of all the other post warranty failures and how they have been repaired and eventually they will relent and you will get the new motor (thats if its the typical #3/4 failed piston issue, not an oil sump plug that was loose etc...).

So far this has worked for all cases I have heard about. Main thing is, keep firm but polite. The dealer is paid to say no, it has to be approved by Nissan Australia.

Keep us informed on how it goes.

Cheers

Captain

Daa daa da da da .... another one bites the dust..

What does the dealer say? As what head office will take into consideration is what the local eyeballs (dealer) sees and tells them.

Customer service at Nissan in Dandenong Melbourne would be the place.

Hi Bruce,

Our June, 2000 GU blew at 145,000 klms (out of warranty) we are second owners, no service history either (although we do service regularly they may have notice that). We contacted Nissan Australia first, they told us to talk with dealer. We got onto our local dealership, we got new engine and turbo at no cost. We only had to pay for incidentals. We replaced the clutch at the same time no labour of course since they car was already apart. The car was back on the road in four weeks.

Let me know how you go.

Cheers
Lea

Even though the warranty is 100,000 ks, For any engine is nothing, even the cheapest korean buzz box should do double that..

Bruce,
How many K's? Just out of interest, looks like all the planets are lining up here. Mine hasn't failed as yet but when I bought mine I fired a letter off to Nissan explaining my concerns about the fifth gear gearbox issues and also the engine failure issue. I got a letter back from "The Man" telling me to keep the letter he sent, mine had been placed on record (maybe the bin) and should I have any issues to contact the dealer, if I had no success to contact him. Good luck let us know how you go I've got a vested interest, same vehicle same year etc etc. Thanks for any info.
Keep the shiny side up

Gday Martyn
It's got 100 900 k's on the clock, it went without any warning & no previous faults or signs, so i cant even tell you what to look out for.

The letter that you have does it have a name & if it is not to much bother would i be able to see it ,it may just be the thing needed to get nissan to come to the party, i wil keep you informed as the more we document in this state the better chance we all have of getting n oticed
Thanks Bruce

My engine blew last Xmas, and is documented on this site.
Nissan replaced the engine at zero cost to me.
I dealt with ms Val Davies at Nissan HO Melbourne(cust relations dept)
My motor has now done 10,000km and I have just returned from towing a 18ft van around WA(gods own country, land of the free).
The truck returned 18mpg towing the van,and performed brilliantly.
What other engine of this capacity can put out the power and torque of this little wonder?
Regards
