Posted, the other day, about my 3.0 td not starting at Mt Hotham after a -6.5c o-nite temps. Had the truck checked out at mr nissan and no problems showed up on the diagnostics. After speaking to several diesel users/suppliers it appears that it was a case of not enough alpine diesel in the
tank. Yes, that dammed floculation again! Next time I won't top up the
tank before leaving
Melbourne and ensure that I get as near to a full
tank of alpine diesel as I can. I was also told there is an additive that can be put in normal diesel. Thanks again for your replies and I hope this helps other visitors to the snow.

Some more info as
well......you should also check your oil before you start your vehicle. With small quantities of diesel in your oil, this can solidify therefore destroying your motor when attempting to start.
You need at least 75% of Alpine diesel to ensure you have no problems. If you do you can add kerosene at 5 litres for each 100 litres of diesel to get you going.
See www.bp.com.au/fuelnews for more info.

Would that be the feral disco I often see at Mt Disappointment and around Briar
Hill?

Hi DubbleDiff,
Just add about half to two thirds the percentage of regular unleaded petrol to your regular diesel as the number of degrees below zero you're expecting. So at minus ten you would add 5 to 7 % unleaded. You can add up to about 25 % of unleaded without any harm to the engine.

Two products to look out for are Chemtech diesel power and lucas extreme.
Chemtech 25ml treats-100ltr, 50ml for extreme conditions (250ml bottle)
I have both but am using the chemtech, I live at
Dinner Plain all year round and don't have any problem with my 100 series running this product. The resident diesel mechanic runs the lucas.
Hope this helps regards Rob
