Guys,

Any idea how to convert from Ozi to Magellan?? - I've tried GPSBabel, but as soon as I get into Mapsend it says it's the wrong format....

Magellan's Discover Street and Tracks is Proprietary Software and as far as I know it is not able to be converted into any other format, works only with Magellan products.

Why would you want to anyway it is a brilliant program on it's own right and works great with the Magellan GPS systems.

OZI Explorer is the only mapping software that can be used in conjunction with Garmin and can also be used with a Magellan GPS,in a lap top situation but it cannot be uploaded to the Magellan product only Disc Streets and Tracks can do that.
Map send is the early version of Discover streets and Tracks.

A new update is going to be available in about 12 months time.

John,

Sorry mate - I should have explained myself better - I have some data I've downloaded which is in OziExplorer format (it's the UHF Repeater locations for Australia, from Exploroz), but I want to convert it to use it with my Magellan..

I actually do have DiscoverAus - slip of the tongue saying I had the older MapSend

Thanks

Ivan,

I assume you want to get the data from Ozi into Discover Aus...

You could do it via your magellan GPS. Try uploading from OziExplorer into your GPS and then downloading that info into DiscoverAus.

I'd try the technique out for you now but I'm at work at my remote mine site and don't have my toys with me :-(

Cheers

Ivan - Ozi waypoint data should convert easily using GPSBabel. Ensure you are saving in correct format - there are two - one for files saved to SD card ("Magellan Protocol") and one for Mapsend ("Magellan Mapsend") format. Ensure you name converted file with .wpt extension (same as OziExplorer) and give it another name to that used for OziExplorer file (or save it in another directory) as the program (GPSBabel) does not appear to overwrite files with the same name.

Other way is to open file in OziExplorer and save in decimal degrees in a text file (in WGS84 datum) – open this file (a csv file) in Excel and edit to leave 3 columns named (exactly as shown here) - Name, Latitude (degrees), Longitude (degrees). Save file in xls format and import into DiscoverAus.
Cheers
Greg
