Went to every state in mainland Australia, except Victoria,( I will go there in November with any luck).
Two great trips back to back. First, a west to east crossing of the Simpson Desert. Called in and saw Ruth at Birdsville, what a lovely person. Sorry I didn't see you before I left but when I called in at the office you were not there and I had to get going.
A big thankyou to the Nurse there at Birdsville. The muscle that I tore on my ribs did get better, they would have healed a lot sooner if the crew on the trip didn't keep me laughing.
One thing that I did't like to see on the Desert crossing, was the number of drivers and passengers including kids not wearing seat belts.

On a postive note. The highlight of the trips would have to be snorkelling of the beach at Cape Leveque with my daughter Eliza. In 20ft of clear water we could easily see fish swimming on the bottom. To all you Dads, get out there with your kids, even if it is a weekend camp. I hade a fantastic time with Eliza, we hade so much fun together. When we got home she had growen another 12mm. 160cm or 5ft 3" and is only 11yo.

I tried a coulple of new things out on this trip. The dual wheel carrier I made just before I left surived the corrugations but the Cell X9 shocks from TJM failed.
TJM have now recalled the shock because of the high failure rate. The new batteries are still working and the new LED tail lights on the rear bar have not fallen off or blown a globe.
In 4 weeks I am off again to cross the Simpson, I think that the yellow flowers that covered the desert in July will all be gone by then, but the challenge of the Desert will still be there.

Thanks John. The High Country is very different to the out back but I still get excited about going to either end of this great country.

I did'nt say what the second trip was in my post. It was a 26 day trip to the Kimberley, another great place to visit.

G'day Wayne and welcome back to the real world, you poor bugga!!! LOL

What a magic time you must have had....

Too bad about the X9 shockers. I'm just waiting on some XGS's to turn up. If they last me a few years, I can get the Koni's rebuilt.

We've only got about 24 days til we head off to the Cape. (Not that I'm counting or anything of course !!!)

Gossip........Willie's sold Rosie and has a "new" GQ + an Entrail for Judith (sorry: "X-trail").

You won't see as much CRAP on here any more.....there've been a few changes and a new chat room on Yahoo has been set-up for forumites (& others) who just wanna shoot the breeze. One of the cluey types that can add those blue links might see this and re-post the link.....it's worth a look and a chat.

Look forward to more of your tales......great that your daughter was able to go with you; she will have learnt 10 times more out there than she would've in the classroom.

Onya mate....

Glad to hear you had a really good trip, Wayne, and arrived back safely.

I will be in the Simpson from 21 Sept to beginning October somewhere on the RiG Road or places in between. Maybe we will catch up.

We were through that country 12 mths ago Wayne and it seems like it's been 2 years. I wanna go back so bad. Isn't Cape Leveque just one of the most beautiful places in the world - truley G...'s country.
It's funny how it gets into your blood - I hadn't been to the Alice before in my (longish) life and I have now been there 5 times in the past 12 mths

Interesting about the shocks, I had a look at them but decided to go a bit bigger and heavier and fitted the Tough Dog foam cell adjustables - nothing like being a bit over the top over engineered - but I couldn't be happier with my decision.

Enjoy the Simpson. Which track are you taking ???

I was very surprised when the shock let go at Innamincka. The shaft pulled out of the shock and was bent in a "S" shape. The body of the shock bent and was pushed onto the rear brake calliper, pushing it in and as a result of this I lost some brake fluid and hade no brakes until I removed the bent shock.
I had another shock to put on and this allowed me to get to Alice Springs after the Desert trip. I went to the TJM shop in Alice and they put the broken shock with the other 9 broken shocks that they have to send back to Brisbane. 24 hours latter they hade a new shock for me which surrived the Kimberley. On returning home I went to TJM and they said that were recalling the Cell X 9 shocks.
I will get a set of XGS shocks and will also get the old Koni shocks rebuilt and put them back on.
