Hi All,
Just want to know weather it would be better to crank up my existing torsion Bars or replace them with heavy duty ones the reason I ask is that I am looking to put 285/75r16 on my 4By so I need extra height I have heavy duty springs but have yet to replace the Shocks? I have been told that the cranking of the torsion bars can affect the CV Joints or is it just the boots? And I was also told that I could replace the boots with those from a Subaru Liberty or similar as they have a longer boot than the Paj any feedback would be great.

Winding your torsion bars will affect your CV angle. Therefore they may wear quicker when the hubs are locked in.

I know I can wind my standard Rodeo torsion bars to get the height I want (with some other mods too). However apparently stronger aftermarket ones can be wound without sacrificing ride quality. Would depend on how much weight you have on the front too (bullbar, winch, more batteries etc). I would wind the standard ones before buying new ones and see what happens. However you say you already have new ones.

Do current Pajeros have torsion bars? I know they're fully independent but I thought it was a coil setup.

Yeah bizzare...:

"Independent, double wishbones, fabricated steel upper A-arms, fabricated steel lower A-arms, coil springs, gas dampers, steel sub-frame mounted, jointed mount anti-roll bar"

It doesn't mention struts or torsion bars??

The NM Pajero has a strut suspension with coils at the front. No torsion bars to wind up.

If you want to gain extra clearance, you will need to replace 2 struts, 2 shocks and 4 coils. About $1400 or so for an OME setup installed.

No need to feel like a bozo. The only silly question is the one that isn't asked.

Happy to help. Cheers buddy!
