Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

When filling my 1997 2.6litre dual cab Rodeo (63 litre tank) the pump constantly clicks off. You have to fill it slowly to prevent this. Some servos must have slower pumps as at some servos this is not necessary.

Its done this for years (probably since i bought it) so I was just wondering if this is normal for this vehicle or if it has a problem (blocked breather pipe?)

I've read post: 11503 but none of it refers to the standard tank but says something about a carbon canistor. Could this be blocked?

Thanks.

Hi Utemad,

Yep, used to run around in a 2.6 rodeo ute and had the same problem. Depends what angle you hold the filler on as well as to how it fills. From memory, it has something to do with the breather valve. Again, I think it may be dodgy after a couple of years. There is a simple fix and I think Holden hold the answer.

Someone else on the forum might have a better answer but that's what I recollect. Hope you solve the prob mate.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thanks Chris.

I'll drop in and see them sometime. I generally find that all they say is "book it in and we'll have a look" but as annoying as it is I don't think it is worth the $1 000 000 price to have Holden fix it.

I'll ask them all the same though.

Thanks again.

No stress mate. I just remember how frustrating it was, standing at the pump, looking like a spaz tilting the filler, at half throttle trying to fill the ute. Fuel sometimes would come shooting out at me. Ahhh, the memories.

See how you go.

Hi Utemad
Had 2 Rodeo's and now have the Fronteria.
You will have to learn to live with it. They all do it. Some pumps (The fast ones) are worst than others. One of the problems you have to put up with for a moter and drive train that goes & gors & goes forever.
With the 2 Rodeos and the Fronteria I have clocked up over 700,00km without a problem to the motor or drive train.

Vince

I've lived with it for almost 4 years now. Just thought if it was something simple I'd fix it.

I've never had a mechanical problem yet. Although it only has 146 km on it.

Thanks.

If it is any consolation, I have the same problem with a longe range tank fitted, angle of the dangle and holding your tongue right seems to be the only answer..............

Gday
I had this prob with the original tank and also the long range
The way I have found to beat it is turn the bowser handle upside down(instead of normal way of holding pump handle) Hope you can understand but this way works.. :-)

Hi Utemad,
I've a '98 2.6l with a similar problem. The bloke I bought her from told me to turn the nozzle upside down, and it works fine. I've got the slightly longer range tank fitted( about 90l.) so it can be real painful if you cant get the fuel flowing fast. Experiment with turning the nozzle to find the right spot for your car..
Good luck

My rodeo did the same, and like the other dude, I found turning the nozzle sideways or upside down helped.

The worse I find when filling up my tank on the Rodeo, especially if it is nearly MT (120L) is bowser nozzles that don't have the pins to put the trigger on the catch.

Hi Dion,

What's the deal wth those auto releasing petrol pump triggers?

When I was in New Zealand all the servos I filled up at had them but here though don't.

The ones I have looked at have the spot for them but just not the lever/pin bit.

Some fuel stations have them, some remove them. As my Rodeo's are diesel, I fill up where trucks fill up and generally those bowsers do have the pins.

Cheers,

Dion.

The reason is that with self serve, people have no excuse now to say "IT KEPT FILLING"... which was happening a lot.

Now you have to hold it and let go when your full or got what you want.

Could be right Truckster. When I was little I remember one place where they still had driveway service. I thought it was odd that they came to help you at this one station but nowhere else. However when I was in New Zealand there were quite a few places that did driveway service. I found it freaky at first when I got out of the car and found this guy waiting at my petrol cap.
