I have a mate who is looking at purchasing a new 4wd and the option he is looking at is the Patrol Ti with the 3Lt TD Auto and the LC Sahara with the diesel motor.
I currently own a GU III 3Lt TD Manual and love it. We have had none of the troubles that I have heard Truckter and others talk about, and I really like the new technology included in the ECU control diesels. Most of our km's are around metro area, despite getting away as much as possible on weekends and holidays. My mate will be in the same boat and will tow a big van occasionally.
My question - If dollars are not an issue what are the advantages and disadvantages of the LC100 over the Patrol and visa versa ?
I can advise him on the Patrol, but have no knowledge on the LC100 except for the limits of the
suspension for modifications, and the spare wheel being in a bugger of a spot.

I don't own either but in general........
If money is not an issue then put the 100s spare on the back door with a Kaymar type thing. Problem solved.
If you want an interior that doesn't look and feel like it was put together by a drunk first day apprentice, buy the 100s
If you want a solid front axle then buy the Nissan.

No offence intended. I intend my next vehicle to be a GU 3 litre. I was just fairly disappointed with the GU interior when I went 4x4 shopping with a friend the other week.

Are you sure you can get a Ti with anything other than 4.8 Petrol?

Thanks Billy, I have paid closer attention to the specs on the Nissan site and you may be correct. I might have to compare the ST-L.
The 4.8 is not a worth a look from my point of view.
Cheers

I'd buy a TD6 and put the other $20k towards accessories.
YMMV

You havent been able to get the 4.2 in auto in the GU range as far as I remember..
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot and lost sales!

sahara-get fridge inside centre console, think get sunrroof, leather seats, airconditioning controls for back and front ie different switches, sat nav system, rear diff lock(may want to chech that as last heard that was getting dropped)-think ,get 17inch
wheels with all terrain type tyre(bit better than road tyre),dual battery setup,cd stacker-auto can be used as manual-drive to see what i mean)
if auto over manual u get a switch for 2nd gear start and switch for power mode(holds in gear a bit longer before changing for towing etc
interior has more room especially driving position-has 8 leagal seating positions although 3 on dickie seats is really just for kids but can fit small adults for short trip
against-ifs front limits ability to raise much but drives and handles extremely
well as standard, rear wheel under back
dont mention about how much off rd use u do but for basic dirt driving and not to rutted tracks standard
suspension would be passable-may need to do something with rear springs if towball weight hheavy as rear sags easily
diesel turbo tows extremely
well and pretty good economically
as you know about the nissan will leave it to you but worth driving both on same day to compare

forgot to mention for 100 series that there have been a few front torsion bar mounts cracking even under normal driving conditions
nissan drivetrain basically bulletproof and rear lsd actually works after 20000km

Hey Fozzy, thanks for the detailed reply. I appreciate your time. Re the off Road driving, I think standard
suspension probably would do. It would tow occasionally so maybe the rear
suspension might need a look at an upgrade.
Re: the front torsion bar cracks, are these expensive to replace, or do you find its a warranty job ?
Cheers

Deano...
i think you'll find that the cracks in the T Bar mounts are only occuring on vehicles with modified front
suspension ....
