Wondering if anyone has seen, used, or knows of any portable gas type camping showers? I know that an ARB outlet in Albury sell one the size of a small tool box, rather $$ though.

Thanks Rob

I have a Primus one, works very well. The Coleman one looks pretty good too.

Shaker,
Have you used the Primus at alttitued, is it costly and what made you decide on it over the Coleman. I have'nt seen any of these yet as I am in regional Vic and some km from shops.

Thanks Rob

I have used it through the Victorian high country, it cost around $400, about the sameas the new Coleman one. When I bought it the Coleman wasn't released.
I think the Primus unit is more robust, & the Coleman one is easier to use.

latest K-mart catalogue has Colman for $398. Had a look in our locak camping store but have not used. The Primus seems smaller but more complicated to use.

Hi Rob.

Looked at both the Primus and the Coleman. Bought the Coleman as it is Farr easier to use and also is better suited for scarce water situations. The Primus needs heaps of water available.

The Coleman also is more versatile as it can be used in the kitchen. Indeed it is sold as a hot water system. The shower fitting is an extra and not included in the unit as sold.

Cheers

They had the Primus one at Agfair and I was told by the sales guy that max temp was 45c which doesn't seem real hot to me. The Coleman according to the local shop is 75c

I have a primus. It does take some getting used to, but works very well.

It has a no flow /low flow auto cutoff. If the shower jets get blocked then it will cut out. This is OK but one just needs to keep the shower head free of blockages or it will keep cutting out. Better to change the head to one that gives more flow to start with and this problem is reduced.

It has a high water temp cutout. If it is turned up too high is cuts out automatically to prevent scolding. But even with it turned down below full it still gets too hot to shower under and needs adjusting.

It heats water very quickly so for kids it is easy to just let is circulate through a bucket or 20 l drum and when it is just right, turn the gas off and let the kids go for it by just using the pump.

It does not fit a primus bottle with the standard fitting.

I have used it a bit and it has travelled some very rough roads and handles the conditions well to date. It seems to be well made and robust.

The only major dawback I think is the price.

Sean

We just heat up water either in a steel bucket over the fire or in a kettle
and saucepans on the gas stove then make a mix of the correct temperature
in a plastic bucket and use a 12 volt shower/pump (Jaycar et al $25) with a
small SLA battery. If we're in the one camp for a few days I usually make a
"shower room" with the assistance of a tree, a tarp and a flattened empty
beer can for the soap dish :)
