Unfortunately i need new tyres- grand trecks stuffed at 50oooks. Good news is i can now get ATs. looking at bridgestone duellers at 275/70 or bfg at 275/70. Which is best- i realize this depends on usage. i do most on black top but have joined 4x4 club and now doing some rocky stuff which can be severe. also a friend said to go 285/75 bfg- any thoughts on this.
Some info on prices would also be welcome ( quoted $322 for bfg 275/70 from bob jane, $355 k mart)
Also would appreciate any other tyre choices people may have
thanks
fred

I have just fitted Cooper ST 285/75/R16 to my LC. They are a 60/40 road/dirt ratio tire. And come with an 80,000 Km 'pro rata warranty.
Suggest you "negotiate" for a good price but I beleive they retail for $288 each.
I didnt pay that as I used the warranty option to upgrae from AT to ST.
Had absolutely no problems with the warranty. Unfortunately the AT didnt survive my recent 15,500km 6 week trip including the Tanami and
Gibb River Road.

Fred,
I have recently put BFG AT's 285 / 75's on my 100, and have also used them on previous vehicles and I have to say I've been very happy with them. I did a couple of trips up the
Oodnadatta,
Simpson Desert,
Corner country, etc. No Flats......
This recent set of 285's I bought in May from Tyrepower and paid $275 ea, these are cheaper than the 70 series standard size tyre. If you don't want to increase the overall diameter of the tyre you might want to consider 265 / 75's which are close to the same diameter as the standard tyre but are a 75 profile, I was quoted $255 ea for these.
I was also lead to believe that the 75 profile BFG's are made in the USA while the 70's are made elsewhere, I know of people who have had BFG tyres fail but as far as I know they were 275 / 70's.
I hope this helps.

Watch out with the warranty - more fine print than a mortgage. You won't get 80,000 km warranty on that size, and won't get it at all unless you buy from a metro dealer and get the tyres rotated and balanced professionally every 10,000 km.
Coopers are OK, but I wouldn't buy them for the warranty.
Cheers
John

Fred,
Recently did a trip down to Mungeranie, on
Birdsville track, with another vehicle. We have BFG AT's on our vehicle, and the other one was using Desert Duellers. They got a split in one sidewall, while didn't suffer any damage.
Would say that the BFG's are somewhat stronger in the s'walls, especially just near the tread.
Interesting to note the prices quoted for 275/70's, we assisted a tourist get a tyre from
Winton, and he was quoted, and paid $340!! Thought that was dear, compared to price we get for 265/75's from the Isa. About $235.
Go the BFG's, they just don't like a lot of
rock, eats the tread away.
Hooroo...

Duelers are fine if you get the 8-ply - 6-ply are prone to sidewall damage. You can tell the 8-ply by the Q speed rating.
I've just put a set on my vehicle, so I'll see how they go. The Telstra vehicles that service this area use Dueler AT 8-ply tyres and report getting good mileage from them. The gibber roads here are hard on tread blocks, particularly for BFG, Pirelli, and Goodyear.
BFG are a good allround tyre if you don't do a lot of stony work.
Just my opinion, based on spending a lot of $ to find out the hard way.
