Hi all,
I've just purchased a '99 SE and the remote entry key fob does not activate the vehicles security system/central locking. The key fob does transmitt (i'm an elec. tech and tested the output on an RF spectrum analyser) and does cause a response to the anti theft flashing LED. I suspect that the receiver in the vehicle just needs to be reprogrammed to accept the key fob code. Does anyone know how to do this? I have experience installing aftermarket security systems but not factory fitted.
Any help appreciated.
Oh yeah and its not just a fuse or something, the central does work with the key.

R - I have a 99 SE TD. Had no snag with the keys yet. Someone at the dealer place (grrrrr - hate hate hate) told me that there is a chip in the handle of the keys - it comms with the central locking computer when in the ignition. If the program goes haywire, the key needs to be back in the ignition while the dealer's analyser is plugged into the car's computer - it is then back-progammed that way I'm told.

Just on the key with the chip, they are very expensive to replace. $300-400.
When I got my jack the second key had been broken off by a little one that placed it in a roller door key hole & then lifted it up until snappo!

I ended up getting a key cut for $5.00 & sliced the black rubber handle on the old one half open & angle ground the new key head down to the small size to fit in the transpoder casing with the chip. Araldited back together I use this key everyday & has worked perfect for over 2 years.

Hey Woz,

Just out of curiosity, did you try opening and starting the car with key that you had cut before doing the surgery on it?

The chip in side has to be directly lined up. otherwise it wont work, tried putting the chip on top off the new one but that too didnt work. The head of the old key is only about 2-3mm bigger than the actual key width, hence the grinding down to fit the plactic casing with the chip before putting it back in the rubber outer. Use a stanley knife for the surgery and a beer after for the surgen.

Sav - I lost a key for a short time - in the interim, bought a blank for $5 and had it cut - works fine for everything on the car except starting the motor - dead as a maggot - the chip is actually required (not a con). Found the spare key a few weeks later (phew).

Hi raaalph

I purchase a 98 SE last year and it only came with one key and central locking remote.

The dealer gave me an additional remote, which was a ridiculous cost somewhere around $400.

I purchased a new key, key with a chip, cut and programmed to engine imobiliser cost about $80 from local GM Dealer

He obviously didn't charge you right!

Is that key able to open everything or is it an additional key just for the igniton?.

I asked about getting a foglight switch that they have in the monterey. $90 was the price. I decided a general rocker switch will do.

I priced the same switch for my Rodeo. Even the service parts guy almost fell over!

Hi all

The key is able to open all doors and igitiontion.

It doesn't have the remote keyless entry control, just a key with a chip to enable the engine immobaliser.

G'day raaalph,
Sounds like you're on the right track, the remote probably needs
to be programmed to the car.
From memory it takes a fairly involved procedure to program.
Any Holden dealer should be able to do this relatively cheaply if it doesn't
require parts.

Cheers

here how guys,

Here's the process.....

'98 - '02 Isuzu Rodeo and Trooper (with factory keyless entry)
Instructions for programming

1. Get in car and make sure all doors are unlocked.
2. Open driver's door and leave open.
3. Put key in ignition.
4. Turn key to 'on position' (dash lights on, but do not start) and back to 'off position' 3 times in 5 seconds or less. (you must turn the key very fast)
5. Close and open driver's door 2 times in 5 seconds or less.
6. Turn key to 'on position' and back to 'off position' 5 times in 5 seconds or less. (turn key very fast)
7. Close and open driver's door the doors should lock and unlock twice after this happens push the lock or unlock button on the remote, doors will lock and unlock. Push the lock or unlock button a second time and doors will lock and unlock again. You are finished!

The above sequence erases all previous codes and adds the new code as #1.

If you are adding a second remote, you should follow the same sequence with the exception of step 6; instead of turning the key to the 'on position' and back to the 'off position' 5 times in 5 seconds or less, do it 3 times in 5 seconds or less and then continue to step 7.

***Remember to turn the key to the on and off position very fast.

The last part (in point 7) about locking and unlocking twice didn't happen but my key is now programmed. Thanks anyways. The info came from http://australia4wd.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=51&forum=15
