I am relatively new to digital video and was wondering what software people use that is simple to understand and inexpensive. I received with the video "Image mixer" which has very little when in comes to instructions.

Check out Pinnacle Studio..
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/

Got a copy off Kazaa, its really easy.. and I mean EASY!

You can go for some of the more serious packages, but then you find they have 10000 options, and only 10 you will ever use.
YMMV

I agree with Truckter. Pinnacle Studio will do the job no worries. If you find yourself getting to the stage where you want a little more control, Adobe Premiere might be the go.

cheers,
Sam.

One of the best I have found for simplicity & ease of use is Ulead Video Studio & Ulead Movie Factory for converting & editing video files to VCD or DVD format. Another is WinAVI which will convert just about any video format with the proper Codec files.

I have used a number of video editing packages over many years now. For high end needs Adobe premier is great.

For ease of use, easy learning curve and good price, Pinnacle studio version 9 is fantastic.

If you do buy it the first thing you should do is download the latest patch from the pinnacle web site.

As for getting it of Kazaa, if the software is good, works and you use it, buy it don’t steel it.

Interesting observation. Whenever a message is posted about someones car being stolen there is a deluge of replies criticising the culprits. When a post is put up suggesting down loading software illegally not a peep.

This is not a criticism just an observation about attitudes to piracy, which is theft by any definition (and way off topic)

Cheers
Groove (disgruntled software developer, in case you couldn’t tell)

you are so correct about software thieves
software thieves are just the low life scum and trash of the internet
they are normally to lazy to work
software thieves always steal from others and cannot be trusted because they always tell lies about everything

I totally agree, by all means test the Evaluation Copy then if it suits your needs buy it!!
I bought Nero 6 of the net for $87.00 as apposed to $199.00 from Hardly Normal (Harvey Norman) I also think Pinnacle Studio 9 is the easiest DV Editing Programme around…

Hey truckster, off topic i know but, i read somewhere i think you mentioned a Donaldson 10" system for turbo 4.2's.
Can i ask u if they are restrictive in any circumstances and if so, should they only be used for convoys off road when dust is at its worst?
Cheers

Hey Angelo.

Yea I got one off Bazzle. Fitted it straight away, and on the way home, you could actually see some old dust circulating around in there. so they do work...

The restrictive thing is hard to really guess, I think on slowish stuff they would be ok, but havent used for a while, might dig out soon try it again.

Lots of tour operators use em, so maybe they are ok, but yea, I rather the ram for normal stuff.

Enjoy..

I just love the totally illogical jumps made by Disco_inferno in his comments on software.

Almost a good as watching the passions stirred up in the Toyota / Nissan threads.

Amazing stuff when logic flies out the windows and passion ans pre-conceptions fly in to replace it.

In the meantime, check out the free ware and share ware sites if you are on a budget. There is some good stuff there but you have to dig for it.

Apart from that check E-Bay for the software you eventually settle on.

Also, I am told there are cheap software sites hidden deep on the Internet where software can be purchased on a disc or by download.

May be an urban myth, but apparently they do exist.

Just passing on information is all.

Cheers

Magnus

Now if you really want state of the art and easy to use, and dirt cheap, consider this. New eMac $850. Add Sony super drive (DVD burner) for $240. iMovie is bundled free with the hardware. iMovie is the basic video editing package. If you are a bit more sophisticated then you can buy Final Cut Express. If you are making ads for TV then buy Final Cut Pro. The eMac uses Firewire so is very fast. Of course you could buy a dual processor G5 Mac and have the best video editing solution available.
