I live in West Oz and have never seen the snow but just found this in a trade Mag
and thought you may be like it- SnoClaws rubber snow chains

Looks interesting but doesn't appear to have good contact with the road. What would happen if you had to brake suddenly and the Snoclaws were not in contact with the road? I can't see them having the same grip as chains.
I would want to see them in action before I parted with the cash. Same as anything else I guess.
