G'day all,

I am interested in how people have mounted engel fridges in the tray of a cab chasis. What sort of protection has been provided from rain etc.

Thanks in advance.

Are you going to have any form of canvas roof over the cargo area? or just an open tray?

One idea is make a cabinet with the frame out of angle iron that mounts to the tray, and surrounds the fridge with ply sides - leaving a 2-3inch gap around the sides for air flow. Mount fridge on a slide inside the box, and use that to remove from the box, and then a canvas front 'door' that zips closed.

It will be just an open tray, with the fridge mounted permanently in the back so will need to be weather resistant.

ones at work are held in place by angle iron frames with chains welded to them which you loop around the handles to lock it up and the canvas canopy protects from the rain

Jack00,
Check out the travel DVD's from 4WD monthly they've got an Engle in the back tray of a 79 series Cruiser which apart from the transit bag it has no other protection from anything, it's been in there for the whole trip and hasn't missed a beat.

T-Man,
It looked a real enough test, it was fairly battered and wet, but as Roothy pointed out the Boags was still @ 2 degrees C. Yeap your more than likely right it would go back to Engle for analysis. Anyway I know I changed from a GQ to a GU you still haven't forgiven me have you?

T-Man,
The Rangie is proving enough of a project without another one, just had to replace the back half of the exhaust, both mud flaps and I'm still trying to get all the mud out from on top of the gearbox and transfer case, yea I know use a hose, I just know how susceptible to water the old Rangie is.
I couldn't afford the 4.2TD much as I would of liked one, maybe next time.....................
