I know theres always negative comments about insurance, but this week we have had the misfortune to test ours out!
My "better-half" rolled our Patrol last weekend out
Aratula, she swerved to miss a 'Roo and gently put the truck on it's roof. (She was not going fast, <50k's, but on a very loose dirt road that is rated at 100k's). She is shaken, but otherwise completely uninjured, testament to how strong large 4bys are, not to mention the cargo barrier!
Monday we rang our insurer, AAMI. We have been with them 18 years without a claim and I currently have 3 cars insured with them, they took our statement over the phone, arranged the tow truck for the following day, and rang today to say they had authorised the repairs! The Patrol should be back on the road October 1 (can't wait!)
We have always been totally upfront and honest with them as far as accessories/mods and what we do and where we go. It's the best policy!

G'day Brian,
not wanting to start a debate but when I rang AAMI to say I have a new Triton the first question they asked was "are you going to take it off road?" I replied that it would only be gazetted roads in state forrests etc. I was politely asked to hang up and not call back... All this after 5 years of regular car insurance with them.

Sorry to hear that Blue... one of things that seems to me to be a bit strange with all insurers is inconsistency..... I don't know the answers, but I can say that I have been with them for a long time, and I have had to argue with them at times to get the cover I want.... and perhaps after the truck comes back I may need to argue some more about my cover... who knows???? :-)
In my case it has turned out ok this time, which I hope will be the last time we go through this... and I certainly think it pays to talk with them/argue with them/harrass them/whatever it takes to get them to see my point of view.
Cheers mate

I'm rapt everything worked out for you... should be more of it. The inconsistancy it the biggest sh*t about the whole affair. I'm lucky the Triton is a lease car in a way... not allowed to get too carried away with mods(10% of purchase price or it effects the tax side of things). Keeps things a little simpler when it comes to insurance.
Hope the repairs are A1 and all goes smoothly

I have 2 houses 2 cars and a boat with AAMI and only had to make 1 claim in a heap of years. I hit a roo and did one whole side of the car. They were the easiest company to deal with and never asked a question to indicate that they would not cover me. Nothing but great service from them. I am surprised to here that comment about asking you to hang up. It is not the AAMI that I deal with.

HitaKangaroo in my 100 series landcruiser so had to make my first claim on AAMI.
I have to say they were totally committed to making the process easy for the client. Took all details over phone, made appointment for next day to take vehicle in. A representative rang later to confirm appointment (most unexpected). Went to Preston office, drive straight in, met by ameet and greet at the door,
park vehicle in bay as directed. Immediate attention from an assessor, took no more than 10minutes then advised my lifthome would be available in a few minutes (it was 80 odd K home but thats no problem sir). Just had time for a quick coffee (free) and the limo arrives to drive me home. Advised that they will also transport me back to collect vehicle when finished. They rang later in the day to advise where the vehicle was to be fixed, its cost to them and when it would be ready. Advised they will ring next week to confirm pick up date. All in all a very customer oriented and pleasant operation. So good in fact that I would have to say that they have the best customer relations that I have EVER come across.
If the repairs are as good as the service I will be very happy.
Good service is so rare these days that I think they deserve praise for what I experienced.. I have 2 4wd's insured with them and never any suggestion that I would be asked to go away.

G'day Avro,
mate I can only report what happened. Up til that little hiccup they were fantastic, even covered my motorbike at the time which they advised me they don't normally do, as I had multi policies they let the bike in. One silly operator and they lost the lot. I'm glad you have had good experience with them, no one needs the crap that goes with a sticky insurance claim, unfortunately they wont see my money again.

I'd do the same Blue.... unfortunately it's likely the operator who maybe wasn't up to speed with the companies do's and don'ts, or maybe just being lazy, any number of things and like you said, they won't see your money again. They wouldn't see
mine either in that circumstance!

Thanks mate..
I dunno why, but I found them to be very easy to deal with... who knows????..
They have said on several occasions this week that the repairs are covered by a Lifetime Warranty through AAMI... I guess there'll be limitations to it somewhere, but I'll be keeping a close eye it that's for sure. Mechanically it shouldn't be a problem, it was only panel damage. If they let me down at all Bruce, you'll read it here first!!!!!!

Those GQs are tough though. I watched a GQ wagon roll over in front of me on the coast road between
Cairns and
Port Douglas. Not the ideal place to have an accident. It was going the other way (South) and the rear started to come around on itself after going round a blind corner. It went over on its left side and then somehow slid nose first into the
cliff face (had a bullbar).
The 50ish male driver climbed out his window and then we had to pull his wife out of his (drivers) window as she had a bad hip and couldn't get out herself.
Anyway we just all pushed on the roof and it popped back onto its
wheels. We then locked the hubs in and reversed it back onto the road. I was amazed at how little damage was sustained. No broken glass except the mirror. He drove it away about 15-20mins after the accident.

I look at
mine with more respect than I already had for it! It rolled drivers side, then roof and then was recovered passenger side then
wheels..... and yet neither wing mirror is broken!!!!!!!!!! How bizarre is that?? And although it was severely damaged panel wise.... it was driveable except the windscreen was broken and the roof was about 6" lower.... After the motor was checked over for oil in the top end etc.... my wife drove it back to where we were staying!
They're tough alright!!

Another AAMI storey
My neice in Melb roller her car a few weeks ago and it was a complete write off.
It happened on a Thurs night, the statment was taken over the phone on Friday, the carb was taken from the repairer over to an AAMI repairer on Monday and a cheque for the full amount less excess was received on Friday in the mail...
I could not beleive it either...

Another success story!! I know insurance companies have more "bad" stories than "good" stories out there, but I could not have been happier with our dealings with AAMI. And I bet your niece feels the same mate!! For me, because I have been with them for so long, it's good to have my "loyalty" justified. Hope like buggery I don't ever have to make a claim again though!!!!!! :-)
