We were dismayed to learn on returning from a tour of the desert areas of WA last week that some very inconsiderate people had printed out our intinerary from an earler trip this year, which was in pastoral land and steamed of along our tracks and to our spots without any contact with our station friends in any way re. permission, plus camped at one outstation as if they owned it and left with the outcamps new raingauge, of all things. These people, 3 vehicles, where seen by several people in the mining industry and their numbers recorded and they can expect a visit from Mr. Plod soon. We consider this a very low thing to do apart from stealing our itinerary going onto peoples properties without permission is just not on and we hope all their chickens turn into emu's and kick there houses down, amongst other things. Alick and Wlli,

Firstly may I say that I am pleased you advertise here and that you are keen to exchange ideas. Perhaps I am wrong there, and you are not keen to exchange ideas.

I don't condone people stealing rain guages or anything like that but there are many thousands of tracks across Australia, some mapped and others not where valuable equipment is often found along the way. I always try to secure my equipment against such attack. That does not ensure it is still there next day unfortunatley.

I am tickled to think your "itineraries" have been "pirated". Following your advertising above I looked at the site to see where you talk about "touch points" which I would have thought are hardly itineraries where I would expect timings and all sorts of other information. I am sure it will be a long time before you get multitudes of people following "your" tracks without your guidance.

I do hope the above was written with a bit of tongue in cheek, but that also due intent is followed by travellers across Australia to request permission to cross private property where it is required - even though it is most likely leasehold.

I guess though some should thank you for the ideas for new points to see, after all that is the point of a forum like this one. ;-)

John the problem is some us have exclusive rights to propertys as we have in the cape. Because we do the rite thing and respect the owners.
I am not saying you dont. But others dont.
We travell on peters step farthers property in the cape and have done so for many years.
We have to cross another property to get to ours.
The owner always asks if we can let him know when we do as he may be mustering or doing other things and we do.

In years gone by people have entered our propert via his and shot his cattle and even his dogs his sheds and any thing else that does or doent move.
They also went in there with Quade bikes and tore up his tracks.
The same happens on our property.
The home stead has been pulled apart more and used more times than I can remmember.

This year these fellows turned up and said they had the owners permision but when I asked his name they had no idea.

The full of booze with guns hanning out the windows.

All the best
Eric

Eric,

I can understand that part indeed as we find gates open here or stock shot too and a quad missing last year - not to be found. There are all sorts of versions of trouble like you describe. Fences cut, hay stacks part pulled apart. I did heard that some one needed a recovery so cut out a fence panel to provide wire strands to pull the vehicle.

Road shooting is common at times of the year too where people shoot from the road not 50 metres from our home, not knowing where the shot goes.

I certainly can sympathise with that side of things. There are some bleepheads about that need to be as Truckster says, out of the gene pool.

A & W,

Would the owners of the land give permission for people to travel the land or is it exclusive use for your business? (Locals looking after locals & the like)

I'm guessing that they would turn everybody away apart from yourselves.

If they don't, let me know because I'll explore that area as well next time I'm over there - responsibly and with permission of course.
