Caiguna to the coast

I did the track about five years ago. It's a rough old rocky track, totally ungradable. Prepare yourself for a slow drive.

Dont pass the Baxter Memorial without leaving a message in the tube at the bottom of it.

The latest news is its very overgrown and if you have any respect for your vehicle dont attempt that route.maybe you should contact the eyre bird observatory.
I have heard you can access the coast via Madura Pass or baladonia but the dunes are constantly moving. I did an air search along the entire coast last year and every track was blocked by dunes ...do not attempt to go between the dunes after winter as there are massive bog holes hidden under the sand and unless you have an tree trunk in the boot your stuck .
The dunes have tons of undergrowth and are massive, in places they extend 50 ks inland..in some places they are like the dunes at ecula.
Im going out there about a month from now in an army 6 wheel drive with a landi /trail bike on top to continue my search for a missing person...I often get into trouble in sand with the 6wheel drive, thank god for its massive winch and climbing ability ( 1 to 1,6 grades)..having said that please take extreme care its a very remote area and the search & rescue dont like the place...the police 4wheel wont go down there from Ecula...get the latest ermengency beacon and pehaps a satalite phone. the main road is a hundred Ks north so before you get trigger happy with the beacon ,rip the CB out and battery/antenia & get on top of a dune & try reach the trucks UHF Ch 40 or the CB on Ch 8...( I prefer a quality CB with all the bells on) if its mounted and tuned you can transmit thousands of KS on the upper & lower sidebands, get some frequencies for the CB as Adelaide is quite clear at times across the bight..Good luck...dont use that beacon until you have given everything else a try.If you get a transmitter/reveiver on the air craft frequencies you can break the rules and contact the planes who track south towards esperance or over the beacon at Caiguna..they usually give you to a CB or UHF channel so have your position ready and keep the chat down...they will have plo ted your position down to a circle of 20 ks or less.
Im giving you all this as I dont want another missing person to look for LOL
