HI evreyone,
I've recently bought a 1996 v6 3.0L SR5. Just wondering what other drivers averaged for fuel consumption (city, highway, offroad heavy use). Recently it seems to have blown out a long way - 18L/100km on city driving. I've replaced all filters and the like.
Thanks
Damian

Damian,
Can't really help you withthat particular model, but a mates current V6 Hilux SR5 (3.4lt) averages about 16lt/100km round town.

What fuel are you using? Have you changed the spark plugs? What oil are you using?
Should have bought a surf on diesel. LOL! Then you only get 13Lper 100 around town (and pay 50c a litire more GRRR). :-P

Thanks for your reply, I'm using Optimax, the sparks are new and the oil is Pentrite, i can't remember the numbers. What difference would oil have on fuel consumption unless it was too heavy an oil for the car?
I have also had a Surf t/diesel. I found them a great car expect for heavy off road use. I rolled
mine driving up a 35degree
hill.

Yeah the oil can make a difference, not normally huge, but hey it's worth asking. What about leads? Perhaps take them off and spray some CRC in them etc. Does it have a dizzy? Or is it all electronic?
What about the surf, I use
mine in what I would consider "heavy off road use" and love it, how did you roll it?? Did you have stock springs on it or somthing? they are very similar
suspension wise to what you've got now...

Ziggy I used to have a V6 4Runner
mine did about 100ks a 1/4
tank ,400 a
tank. Check the radiator fan .
mine kept locking up (supposed to free wheel when hot) you could hear the fan lock up and almost see the fuel gauge going down.Is the air flow meter clean (between the air filter and manifold)

I've replaced the air filter but I have checxked the air flow meter. Is that in the houseing along with the filter? I'll also check the fan, I haven't noticed any real noise but you never know
