I travelled the old ghan from
Alice Springs to
Oodnadatta via
Chambers Pillar,Finke,Mt Dare and
Dalhousie Springs drove out to purnie
bore to have a poke around and say that i have been to the simpson
The roads were in good conditions sandy but not to corrugated
and a few patches of bulldust thrown in for good measure
We had a long range tank and could get 800k's from it
We spoke to some people before we did this trip and they said that unleaded was 1.38pl at Mt Dare , so at Finke we filled up for 1.30pl and drove on
when we got to Mt Dare we were informed by the guy running it that he had no unleaded and wasnt getting any for 2-3 weeks
so my advice would be to call ahead and find out about availability of fuel
Its a great trip
Nico

Thanks for that info Nico, from the sounds of fuel prices just as
well the bank increased the overhead on the mortgage:-) I will be there next week (4 - 5/8/02), how long ago did you do your trip? Cheers!

We had 6 weeks 1st june to july 14th
just have to watch out for the hero's
some people think because they have a 4wd they can do 100k's on every road and it is just better to keep out of there way..... you will pass them down the road changing tyres and repairing cars anyway
enjoy the trip
when we were there it was freezing at night in alice it got down to -6 overnight
so i would say colder in the desert but the days were 20-25
