Wonder if anyone has a beaut idea of where to carry the antenna of this little wonder ..I usually leave it in the shed between trips but would rather carry it in the rig ...(Toyo Station Wagon 80 series) with a simple carrier inside the cabin...

I slide mine down the side of the seats along the door line through the c/barrier...
But can be bent if not careful... There is nowhere to carry the long ones safely but you can always keep the smaller version in the car...

Steve --

I have a very long antenna which I carry all the time in the Pajero. I carry it on the passenger side tight up to the grab handles and utilising the cargo barrier. Basically it extends from a position in line with the front passenger's head to almost back to the tailgate door.

I wrapped some self-adhesive Velcro around the tip with a corresponding patch stuck on the roof lining to the left of the passenger's head ... this keeps the tip in place and up tight against the roof. Another self-adhesive strip of Velcro was wrapped just above the antenna base and a corresponding piece fixed to the top of the cargo barrier ... this keeps the "fat end" tightly in position. I slide the antenna in over the top of the cargo barrier, fix the tip to its Velcro patch at the front, then fix the base (or lower part) to its patch on the cargo barrier.

To stop it flexing and rattling, I use about a five-inch strip (old measure) of double-sided Velcro to strap it tight to the grab handle over the rear passenger door.

I hope my description is understandable ... sounds messy and complicated when I read over it, but it isn't really.

Steve --

Appreciate your comment about "Almost too obvious ..." but I was quite a while in getting my poor old brain to consider the answer. I tried all sorts of things -- including buying a beaut (but expensive) slimline protective bag or holder for a fishing rod ... spent 10 times as long trying to make that work as it did to set up my final solution!! Some days I shouldn't be allowed out of bed without my pill.

I also carry my fishing rod whilst intransit the same way. Cable tie it to the grab handles and less likely to get damaged up there.

Hi Steve,

In my GU, I fix it to the cargo barrier in an arc. If you look very closely on my 2nd rig pic, you can "just" make it out near the fire extingusher on the cargo barrier.

On my previous 80 series, I cable-tied a short section of black 13mmm poly pipe (retic pipe) above the grab handles on the passenger side and slid it in from the cargo barrier along the handrails. Very similair idea to the velcro.

Cheers

Go to gardening section of a good hardwhare and get some velcro for tying trees up, cut to length, hooks on one side, sticks to other, PRESTO.
Good for cables, hoses, rods, ariels, kids, missus, not sticky totally reusable... you get the pic... ;))))))
