Not your typical 4WD question, but does anyone know the difference between Valvemaster & Lucas Lead Replacer as an additive for unleaded petrol. Am running a 1983 Mercruiser(Chev) 3 ltr 4 cyl in boat and am also wondering if that particular motor would run on standard unleaded. This motor apparently was used a lot in speed cars, so thought there might be some older gents with a bit of knowhow on the forum with a knowledge of these motors. Thanks in advance.

Chris, have a look at http://www.aip.com.au/health/lead_guide.htm.
If in doubt ask Institute. They are usually very helpful.

G`Day Chris,
The motor you mention were run in speedcars but they ran on Methonal and were usually dry sumped. It probably would run standard fuel if you re-jetted the carby. As a point of interest they were a slant motor because it was a Chev V8 cut in half.
