We are doing a trip from
Mareeba to booraloola then onto govebleepular along the coast line & then onto coborgbleepular NT but we have been informed we will have to have a permit & a guide to go through. We would appreciate any information on this area , who to ring or email to get permits ect. It isn't our first big trip but our first one through this area in the NT.

My guess is he's spelt peninsula without the "n". You gotta love censorship for the masses!

Apparently it's a NO SAY ZONE too!!!! You've learnt a lesson today Boshy - never use the natural terminology for any part of a male's anatomy on a web
forum. Although you are allowed to say "testicals", I believe (but only if you've lost them in a tazer experiment which has gone horribly wrong and you have an APB out on them). I wonder if the censors are sexist - "bleep".

Nope, not sexist! You're not allowed to use the "V" word for a female's genitalia. No wonder much cruder expressions are more often used in the common vernacular. What is the world coming to?

Reminds me of the old joke.
Q How do you know if a girl is ticklish?
A Give her a test-tickle!

Having been to both Gove/
Nhulunbuy and Coburg a few times it isn't generally possible to travel across the top of Arnhem land from one to the other unless you visit someone who lives in the middle.
Permits to travel to Gove/
Nhulunbuy from
Mataranka are/were only available if you had a contact that lived there. Upon arrival you then have to obtain a visitors permit for your stay. It is about a liesurely day and a halfs drive, good scenery in spots and there are specific spots where you can
camp overnight. The road towards the Gove end is very slippery as they use bauxite (1/8" dia balls!) to surface the road.
Permits to travel to Coburg from the south alligator/
cahills crossing are a transit permit only and you must complete the trip in one day without stopping/deviating from the road. They only let a dozen vehicles or so in at any one time and length of stay is restricted.
