Hey Are You All Going,
This question is not for me, but for a friend who wants to buy a small 4 door 4cylinder 4x4 WAGON. (Simular to the Suzkie Vitra). The price range he has set is $10,000 to $13,000 due to what the bank will give him. Now, i have given him my opinon on what i know about the range that is available out there. What i need is your experitise on what are his options and your expeiences with the differnent small 4x4's. Also he won't be the type of person who will be tackling huge feats of driving difficulty.
Thanks for you opinions in advance.

He could get quite a good Vitara for that sort of money. A very capable small wagon. There's plenty of support for them and pretty much any aftermarket option is available for them. I would go for the JLX Auto as the auto compensates for larger tyres effect on gearing better.

The Daihatsu Ferozas are a much more solid vehicle, nice on road and more powerful than the suzi as
well as being cheaper (in most cases). Only problem is there are less after market accessories around for them, but they are a brilliant little bus. They also all came 16vale EFI a lot of the older suzi's were still carby fed.

Personally i don't like the look of the Feroza, due to the fact that they look like they are to narrow and could fall over in a strong wind. But i havn't heard much about them so i have little info to comment on.
Thanks

You obviously have not looked at the wide track feroza as they have the same track as a late model jackeroo!
I had a narrow track and though I came close once I never rolled it over and it used to spend more time in the air than it did on the sand, had heaps of fun with it. Unbreakable machines, they just keep taking it, even when your on the rev limiter half the day! never missed a beat, only sold it cos I wanted a bigger tourer style 4by.

Sorry missed the 4 door part, but after driving both the suzi and frozi on and off road I would still be consider the frozi IMHO.

The carby Vitaras were the SWB from '89 to mid '94 The later SWB and all the 4 door were 1.6 16V EFI. There was also a 2.0 4cyl SWB and a 2.0 V6 4 door from late '96 to '98. For his budget he should get a good 4 door and still have money left over for mods. Haven't seen any problems with the strength of the Vitara and he would have a lot more to choose from.
