Been thinking about installing some sort of auxilliary temp gauge that
runs off the engine block rather than the
water pump. Just a bit of peace of mind given that ive already done a head before. Has anyone got any info on this sort of unit and where i could pick one up? It is for a diesel landcruiser. In
brisbane
cheers

Any auto place sells temp gauges, but how are you going to mount it? Drill and tap a hole into the block?
Or do they already have a provision?

bj I think the best advice is to make sure that your cooling system is kept in A1 condition and get peace of mind from that rather than getting peace of mind from being warned that it's not OK

BJ
For my money, if I was going there I'd be inclined to invest in a low coolant warning setup. Seems most temp gauges don't register unless they're immersed in the coolant. So no warning, unless you happen to have your beady eyes locked on the gauge at the precise moment when things start to go belly-up.
Something I've been entertaining for a while now, but haven't got around to.
Cheers

BJ, you can buy a low warning indicator that has a probe that is taped into the radiator and if the probe does not sense coolant for 10 seconds then a warning alarm goes off in the cab. I have one installed in my cruiser -just in case. Can't think of the name of it. If you do a search you should pick up a thread on it.
Regards
Mark
