I am undecided between the OZTENT RV3 and the BLACK WOLF TURBO 240.

Which is the FASTEST to erect, and perhaps more important......... to pack away.
Don't want to be messing around with fly & stuff......... just REAL QUICK up & down.

Packed away size & prices I am aware of......... I just want the quickest.

I already own a Microfast MI - 4 & a Coleman Overlander 4. I want this other unit for both Tracy & myself.

Cheers

Wolfie,
I've used both and find that you can flip a coin as far as which is the quickest, for my money I'd go the Turbo Tent as its much more stable in the wind.

Checked out the Black Wolf tents awhile ago and while theyre quick,I didnt like all the Plastic Knuckles on all the joints.I commented about this to the sales guy and was told that spare knuckles are supplied with the tent.Dont know if this is a sign of trouble or a good buy.Myself,I went for an Extended centre pole tent and couldnt be happier.

Have been using rv-3 for 6 years and it is the quickest by far, not even pegs if weather fine, we are up dating ours shortly to rv-4, wouldnt have anything else. Keeping old one in good nick for future camping with grandkids.
Funny we only saw the Black wolf tent today as we were wandering the camping shop, and although it looks a good tent for the same money I woukld still prefer the oz tent.

Nick......... I too checked them out today, and mentioned the plastic knuckles.

Apparently, they now use Nylon Resin.

Why not go for an aussie made tent and get one that also fast to pack up.

The Southern Cross Tourer.

Brilliant canvas tent.. 4 pegs 1 pole and its up. Cant beat that.. and you can stand up in it in comfort, Im 6ft 1 and happy with ours.

Best $ spend yet on camping gear.

Bruce..........

Someone else also suggested a centre pole job, so I have Mem Mes him for details.

Thing is.......... are they quick to erect & pack away?
That is my only criteria.

Cheers

I agree with Truckster, the touring tent is the best, You gotta be able to stand up in it to get your jeans on, also crawling out of tent that you cant stand up in when it's raining in the middle of the night to go the the loo is just awful. Heap of cheapies out there now but the Southern cross and the melbourne made one(cant think of their name) are the best quality,

It all depends on what you call quick. Also depends on if you go with the awning or not. They add about 5 mins to the setup, but you can sit 4 people out of the rain, + table + fridge under the awning... We have the Extreme Trekker, not just the Touring one, which is smaller again, but we have 2 young kids with portable cot etc.

Once you learn how to fold it properly (took us a few goes - thanks Cryoman!) its as quick as. The thing is you dont ROLL them up, you just fold then up to a square, and slide into the bag. and amazingly it did fit in the OEM bag - 6 times so far!

You usually find the ones that go up in 1 second go down in 3 hours and other way round.

Southern cross tents hold their value too, mate sold his 12 yr old one for todays prices, and made hundreds on the deal, and 12 yrs of camping enjoyment thrown in with it.

Genuinely the best investment we made, they are an investment at $1000, but we have had several 'Dome Disaster Tents', but never again. Actually got a DDT in the shed, should throw it on ebay.

Truckster funny you should mention folding instead of rolling. I did this once with my air matresses cos it was raining and I was in a hurry, I've never rolled them since!! Just fold, fold, fold in the roof rack bag - PRESTO let's go!

I did 3 months in a Freedom Northern Tourer (very similar design to Southern Cross) on a trip around WA and NT. We also had a small dome tent for quick stops, but found that the centre pole was so simple and quick there was no need to mess about with the dome tent.

Does take a little bit a practice to fold it right to get back into the bag, but having the extra head room makes a huge difference.

Set-up in 3 minutes (with-out awning)
Packed away in under 10 mins (including beds and bags)

The oz tent is "up" fast, but if needing to be "fully" set up, with ropes etc it comes attached with, it isnt really fast at all.

For overnighters I use our Coleman cobra 2, fast and easy, and small.

I ahve the Coleman seaview 8 for longer than overnight stays, goes up, and down quickly also.

I find I save way more time by living out of the car, rather than cart everything to the tent for the night, and back again in the morning.

Good advice, you dont need to remove everything each night.

You got another one of them awnings you had on troopy from Mansfield for the playdoe yet?? Or not going to?

nope, had it made to my design elsewhere.

has 3 positions really, poles up fully, poles down half mast, or pegged to ground through pole eyelets, end you cant see is angled to make a sealed end when down, to stop the wind coming through.

Mounts on 2 stainless steel aerial gutter mounts with bolts in the holes, saves needing a roof rack.

Put my awning on the rear, because thats where the kitchen etc is,
and if its raining the gear does'nt get wet when the door is open.

Rhino bar ( square) with a track screwed on, awning in a bag & 2 poles, have a seperate tarp to attach opposite the door side to double the size if need be.

Cheers

The rear is where Daz had his on his troopy, with 8+ of us top of a mountain in snow, having coffee, and all dry under it.. thats why I want one!

But dont want a roofrack, so the new design sounds good.

The tent is by WILD COUTRY - I think one is on display on the mezzanine deck at Rays West Tce . Not the heavy canvas of Southern Cross but light as to throw up on the bert pac a rac . Suz does notice the 4" susp. lift though .
See ya Wolfie - I,m off to Dorado Downs Fri. for some testing sand tracks etc.etc.
