I am purchasing a Fuji Digital that uses XD memory cards. Looking at getting a 256MB card to replace 16MB card that comes with camera.
Has anyone some advice on suitable brands, ie can Fuji, Olympus & others work OK in Fuji cameras? Prices do vary a great, so some actual user details would help.
Thanks,
Thommo

Look on Ebay. You can pick up cheap memory cards easily.

Olympus will only work in Olympus cameras. A 256 is a big card, i found 2 x 128 were better, it gave me 399 shots per card on the quality I set.

In two months OS never filled a card and it gave me the chance to put one of them in to get the photos downloaded to CD and still have the spare one in the camera.

Depends on how many megapixels your camera is to how many pics per card.

My 5.1mp camera will put 100 pics per 256mb card give or take. My file sizes vary from 1.8 to 2.7mb approx.

I only use full resolution.

I have 1x 256mb 2x128mb 1x32mb.

I carry my laptop if I think I will need more room (if practical to do so).

I have a Fuji S3000 and I can guarantee that Olympus XD cards will work with Fuji. I have a Fuji 64Mb and an Olympus 128Mb card. Both work just as well.

That's correct Dave. Olympus XD cards also work in the FinePix S7000.

Which model Fuji? Some will only take Fuji XD cards.

I have a Fuji S602Z and got my camera from www.dirtcheapcameras.com.au with filters, bag, etc etc thrown in..

Cards I got from http://www.mittoni.com.au/...
Excellent deal, and fast service.

Cheaper can be had from Ebay, I have 2x256 from there, but you never really know what your getting.

Truckster,
The camera is an S5000.
I am confussed re the info I have found to date, as some web sites say the one manuafcture makes all the cards for Olympus and Fuji, so I am not sure to get full use in my camera will I have to stay with Fuji Branded product. The olypus gear is much lower in price from what I can see.

It is confusing, but while at the camera store, ask them to try a few different makes in the camera. If they want the sale they will!

ALso the S5500 is out not the 5000...

Thommo,
Are you sure that Oly doesn't work in Fuji?
My C740 Oly will use Fuji card - only diff with Oly card is that it has a panarama feature that is used by the Oly.
Maybe ring your local camera shop first?

Well we've got three digital camera's, 1.3m Kodak, 2m canon and an 6m s7000 Fuji.
They all take CF cards and the Fuji has an XD slot as well.
We've got about 7 or 8 CF cards varying from 4mb to 256mb, all diff brands and they all work in every camera as long as that particular camera has formatted the card before use.
The s7000 doesn't seem to mind what brand of XD card it uses either. I would be surprised that a particular brand of camera will only work with one brand of card.
