I'm looking at getting a new 4WD (Turbo Diesel) early next year and have narrowed it down to the Patrol, 100LC and the new Disco 3. Can someone give me approximate service costs for a Disco TD5 from first service(10,000km) up to 200,000km. A friend of mine reckons the 100,000km service costs $5000.

Cheers
John

Call a few LR dealers. Ask them, and if they say $200ea, ask for it in writing.

also look at part costs, and other things.

YMMV

$250 for 10,000
$450 for 20,000
$250 for 30,000
$450 for 40,000
an so on.

Out of warranty I believe at 60,000 so go to specialist automotive after that, half the price. $5000 would be daylight robbery, even for LR.

Check timing belt replacement costs - $600 inc. tensioner then approx. $350 labour . There is an alternative though , a set of timing gears & cover from W.A for around $2000 . All depends how long you want to stay in the Green Oval .
Cheers.

No timing belt on TD5 engines. Uses a chain.

Very interesting.
Current Model TD5 has service intervals of 20,000 kl. Not much sense paying for one at 10,000 kl.

Your friend must be dreaming

Just Ask the dealer what a standard 100,000 inteval sevice costs. Try ringing the service department.

I have just bought one and am very happy with it

The IIa has a service interval of 20,000 as Wombat says. I doubt the III will go back to the pack and require 10,000 or sooner intervals. This is a considerable cost saving when you also take into account the inconvenience of getting it serviced.
I have done two MAJOR trips in mine, and it is only having its first service on Friday!

Servicing intervals should depend on what use the vehicle is getting. Whilst they might suggest 20,000k between services, if it gets used offroad you'd be well advised to service more regularly.
