My HJ60 was cutting out when driving with the lights on. After various solutions my lecky found that there was a 'power drain' through a faulty battery earth to the body. This caused the Edic motor of the fuel control rod to slowly close. As the ignition was still on, the shutdown of the motor lasted a split second before the control rod opened again. Fixed by renewing the battery earth to the body.

Nothing worse than an intermittent fault. How long did it take to track that down?

Glad to hear it was something simple and cheap to fix thou.

Hi,
It was a fault that I inherited from the previous owner. He had it for quite a few years but because he didn't do much night driving, he just swore at it!
It even went away from time to time. I haven't told him yet.
My lecky was intrigued with the problem so he asked to have several goes at it!

About 15 years ago, was driving a HJ75 onto the low bridge in the Isa, when all a sudden it stalled, right in front of oncoming traffic. Vehicle wouldn't start, but managed to wind it off the road( just before the bridge), with starter motor.

Outcome was it was a short in right turn signal circuit, at back, where cables were rubbing on on chassis. Bit of conduit, and new 15 amp fuse, all mobile. Think lights and EDIC on that model were on one circuit.

Hooroo...
Seen it all, Done it all.
Can't remember most of it.

just pull the fuel control lever of the edic motor and stall it when you need to stop

Yeh. The lecky said that too. After much pulling of fuses and replacing bits and pieces.
He actually watched the EDIC lever retreating in the end.
