Unbelievable.... just watched the story of Jon Muirs solo trek across Aussie. What an amazing guy and what a trip. Makes me want to get back in the fourby and do a fraction of what he did. Shed a tear when his little Seraphine died

You should watch the ABC.
Jon walked alone & unassisted and without resupply from Port Agusta to Bourktown. Lived off the land during the winter / spring of 2002.

Hi Kiwi
yeah I watched it too, amazing is hardly the word to describe him I think, apart from anything else the physical and mental toughness he must have is incredible, he not only has undertaken this trip but also has trekked to both poles and climbed Everest !!
I shed more than a tear when Seraphine died...
there is a book I believe..called Alone across Australia
cheers

His partner Bridgit (ex, now I believe) also climbed Everest- I didn't see the start- was there someone else filming this, or did he set up all the shots?- if so, he's walked another 50% as
well-

Jon filmed all the close up shots and those where the camera stayed in the one spot on his original trek.He went out the following year and got the long distance and panning shots and interviews with a crew.
cheers

He and his associate take years to prepare each challenge.
I like this quote from him:
"Some people think crossing Australia is dangerous, but I think driving down a stretch of road at 100km/h towards oncoming traffic travelling at the same speed, with only a painted white line on a road separating our paths, is really dangerous. In the end, it's really a question of perspective and the way you see the world."

Evidently only 4 months after finishing the Aussie trek he and another guy walked to the pole.
Considering he lost about 25kg in body weight, was mentally exhausted and was sufferring from malnutrition, it (the pole trek) must have been tough too.

Yeah it was pretty sad when he was burying the little fella. I thought he must have been bitten by a snake, but John thought he picked up a bait.

I agree...a truly 'gritty'effort..and to think just 4 months later he walked to the North Pole.
But I didn't notice the 'ExplorOz' sticker on the back of his Cruiser.

Flamin' nut if you ask me. He ended the trip suffering from severe malnutrition, lost a third of his bodyweight and in a state of complete physical and mental exhaustion. It's a fine line.
If anyone has a good reason for wanting the tape drop me a line.
