As the 80 series is a long term vehicle for me, I am making up an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of all my lubes and
services (do most of them all myself). Does anyone have extras to add to my list. I have only just started, so it is not extensive yet, just things I thought of at work this morning while I have a few spare minutes. It is just to keep track of things. Could do it in a book, but though I would have a go in Excel.
Engine Oil
Engine Oil Filter
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Front Diff Oil
Rear Diff Oil
Gearbox oil
Transfer Oil
Coolant
Brake Fluid
Power Steering Fluid
Front Wheel Bearings
Rear Wheel Bearings
Birfields Regrease
Front Pads
Rear Pads
Heater Hoses
Radiator Hoses
Injectors
Fuel Pump
Column headings are:
Item | Brand/Type | Date | KM | Cost | How Long ago | KM ago | Comments
When finished, I can email out a copy if anyone wants it. Or, if someone has a bling spreadsheet already setup ,they could email to me ;-)
Regards,
Wazza.

I found the front axle seals to be replaced every 50,000 kms , change diff oil and repack cv's is a must on the 80 series , also found front axle replacement is a must at around 250,000 kms , ( only on a constant 4x4 anyway )

Yeah, I am getting up to 235,000k at the moment. It is going in to get the fuel pump leak fixed in a few weeks. Have bought the mrs a car which I can use for a daily run around, which I am hoping will help the 80 live longer (no more short trips, etc). Keep the 80 for trips only and update the wifes car is the plan.
Would like to make it to the High Country Trip as
well Eric, but am offshore until that first week in October. Oh
well, maybe next time. I have a couple of mates from work coming down from
Gold Coast on the 13th-17th Octoberso we are heading up there then, just planning it now. Will be interested in a good trip report from yourself and the others when you get back !
Cheers,
Wazza

Hi Eric:
My 80 Series has just clocked up 250K. What do I need to look for in replacing the front axle? I have just had the leaking steering box overhauled, new wheel bearings and seals etc on the front, and my usually reliable mechanic did not mention any problems. He is generally spot on, but I can ask him to take a look next service if I can let him know what to look for.
My 80 Series is also a long term proposition, now that I have managed to get a lot of "goodies" on it (rear wheel carrier, roof rack, steel bull bar, radios, overhead console , etc....). Gotta love eBay : )
Thanks
Jack

When you remove your front axles , look at the spline that goes into the diff , If there is no flat section between splines , then its time to say goodbye , I should take photos of these things to make it easier . Basicly if the top section of the spline is a tee pee shape that can cut you , is what you need to look for . if there RS dont stress , there very cheap at Don Kytes , around $200 each ,
mine had Gen toyota stickers on them , so I dont know what the go there is .

Wazza,
I can send you a copy of the one I use.
You are quite welcome to change it to suit your own needs.
How do I get in contact with you?
Unfortunately I'm a bit slow and I don't know what "PM" means.
Cheers,
Trev
