First time on this
forum - looks very good and informative so hopefully I can get a quick hand.
Just bought a 1990 Nissan Navar with a 2.4L carbie motor.
Got it serviced but I reckon it runs worse after the service. Uses a whole heap of fuel - 300km to a
tank.
Is there a fuel mixture screw for these things (not a mechanic but can normally figure it out - cant see it at all) or is there a good book to get?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

G'day otech,
If there is a mixture screw it will only adjust your mixture at idle which
will not affect your consumption that much.
However I would be trying to check the fuel level in the bowl. This could be
a bit tricky and may need a manual to give you the procedure.
And check other things like ignition timing, cam timing and any air leaks around
carby and manifold.
Lots of luck.

navaraman - just a quick question, can you recommend a good place for spare parts and service (hopefully your in SA)
I do a lot of travelling for work, so if not in SA please still provide details so i can grab when there.
Moz -thanks for that. Have checked timing plugs leads and for any leaks. Not the 'bowl'. Not really sure how. Will get manual for that.
Cheers for everyones help!

I do the oil/filter changes etc myself but every 20000kms get it serviced properly to do the things I can't/won't try. I ve been using Rod Prime at Lonsdale, he's been recommended to me by several 4by drivers.

Whats he charge for a normal service? (Just as an idea)
Would you give him at least a 9 out of 10?
Thanks

Just dug out my last invoice for a service. I had the gearbox, transfer case and both diffs oils changed
Service and labour $165
Various oils, fuel additive, indicator globe, EPA levy etc just undr $100
Total cost $287.
They picked up leaks at rear axle seal, worn brake drum, front bearing due to be repacked etc. and other items that they recommended doing at a later date that I hadn't noticed so all up I was very happy with the service
