Hello all,
Looking through the latest 4wd Monthly Mag, there is an article on the WA Police doing a desert patrol with Isuzu trucks. The tyres on these obviously get a hamering. With this in mind and assuming that you wanted to run tube tyres ie with split rims, would it not be a good move to use a "truck" style of tyre with a 12 ply rating rather than say the BFG's , Coopers etc. This is of course if you are not looking for agressive tread and would be using them on gravel , sand and country that provides a lot of opportunities for staking.

gday boeing, thats a reasonable assumption i had a set of 12 ply hankooks on a landcruiser i bought and they were pretty good tyres i went around australia eg
gibb river road,
simpson desert and didnt get one puncture till i got home and picked up a steel tine off a
hay baler, i just go with the 10 ply bfg 235/85r16 cause i reckon if your gonna puncture a 10 ply your probably gonna puncture a 12 ply anyway so i dont reckon the extra money is worth it and the 10 ply load rating is plenty for the cruiser. regards slydog

Canberra & he rekons that dollar per kilometer you can't do much better than Hankooks....

we use dunlop dr2 and they are vey close to industructable I did a week of driving without hitting even a crap track just smashing thru bush you just pull the stakes out of the tyres every so often. we have some hankook tyres but they wear faster. They are crap in mud and average on sand but would be a+++ for the kimberlys pilbera or flinders etc
