I have a NOV 03 white 100 Series GXL Auto Petrol Landcruiser 26000 klm. I am becoming more interested in going off road and i would like to sell it and get an older vehicle for series off roading. I heard the 80 series Turbo diesels have bearing troubles. Whats the best vehicle???? (toyata) a hilux may be an option?
anyone interested in a 100 series. Immaculate, Alloy bull bar, factory tow, sun roof, cruise, still smells new!!!. Willing to trade with a cash difference. Whats it worth?
Cheers
Dave

The pre 94 1hdt engine had an issue with big end bearings which is all of about $500 to fix, the 95-97 1hdft didnt have those issues.

He is seeking offers for the current vehicle. Otherwise why give all the detail. An invitation to back trade? Heh, heh ;>)
Gotta give points for the spin.

Dave,
What's wrong with your current vehicle? It'll do plenty of "serious" off roading. You don't need an old dunger to go bush. Toyota's are fine off road vehicles.
Sure, if you want belt the hell out of it an, "old faithful" may be the way to go, but I would first suggest you give your newie a run in the bush. You may
well find it is capable of doing everything you expect of it.
My new vehicle is at best a "moderate" off roader but has satisfied my needs so far. If that changes in the future I will trade it on someting better.
Don't lose sight of the fact that you will spend over 95% of your time on road and you need a vehicle that suits your needs. If you have done 26K in ten months on road you may find a real "bush basher" doesn't suit your needs.
If you can afford to have one of each, that may be the way to go. If you are like most of us and have to make compromises judge accordingly.
I would only suggest you do not make a rash decision; assess your current fine vehicle before putting it out to pasture.
Just my thoughts,

I disagree. For work we go bush in 78 series utes which do the job fine. Occasionaly there is need or want for the 100 series to be taken out and they usually sustain quite severe panel damage because they are too wide and they have alot of exposed panels for serious offroad work. They are only really good for formed tracks

Maaaatey,
The best 80 series is a mica green one. They go the best especially if it has the 1HDFT motor.
Bugger the white ones or those light poo flaxen colours or the faggy blue ones.

Hey OZman,
You wouldn't be trying to slip in a FREE FOR SALE AD here in the
forum would you.....as I can see no reason why anyone would be asking the serious off roading question when they own a LC 100.
I should know I have one and they go just about anywhere out of the box and with the right mods a lot further.
Stuart.

A friend and i were debating about the best toyotas. I said if there is a better 4WD than the 100 i will trade
mine!!! From all the responses so far, the 100 series wins hands down!!!!
Cheers!

The reason you are selling the breadbox is cause you dont want to damage it ??
If thats the issue, buy a 40 series for about $3000 and put a 383 chev in it, lockers and Q78 Swampers..
You should get out of that for
well under $8k and have a weapon...

If your prepared to go as small as a hilux ,a landcruiser BJ74 would do a better job.
Good on road manners, 5
seat belts ,plenty of room with the
seat down and economical.
Also takes a lot of 75 series parts.
$10-14k for a good one.
