Giday, a friend of
mine is thinking of fitting a
snorkel to his 04 model hilux (td). I had another friend who had ARB fit a safari snokel to his 88 model hilux some years back and the vibration noise was unbearable. He of course took it back, but the noise would keep coming back. In the end he gave up and sold the car. Has anyone else had any bad experience's with snorkels or is ARB just trying to get at my friends now that I won't
shop there anymore. I thought it would be good to hear if this is common before he gets that big hole drilled through the side of the guard.
Sorry, had to have that little dig,

Most comments I have seen on this say a
snorkel will create more noise to some degree. Have heard of cavitation type noise in 'Cruiser safari snorkels,(the old type), might have been the same thing in your mates Hilux. See if you can find one fitted to another vehicle and ask the owner

Tonysmc,
The 2.8lt Hilux did have a problem with
snorkel noise. The only fix back then was to fit a turbo. As for thr latter Hilux I can not say as I have not fitted a
snorkel to a Hilux since 1998. On the latter Hilux being a different motor they may not suffer the same problem.

Any brand of snokel on the 2.8s would cause a noise. A foam sock down the guts would sometimes help.

I had a safari
snorkel fitted to my TD Prado in 2001 by ARB. After about six months I noticed a vibration noise coming from inside the guard near the
snorkel when idling.
I took it back to ARB, who repaired it under warranty, they informed me that in the Prado's and Hiluxs (3lt models) that the fit inside the guard for the
snorkel was very tight, and the hose clamp had turned slightly, so as that it has hitting the inside of the guard as the car idled. They turned the hose clamp around slightly and retightened. I haven't had a problem since.

Safari told me that they never recommend a prefilter except in the case of a Hilux which they do due to this noise problem.
