I have an 89 navara diesel. when on the tar it sits on about 3 000 rpm at 100 km/h. is this right? it also has a LSD of some sort on the rear. can anyone tell me if these came with a lsd? and finally, if i do have the wrong diff how easy would it be change back to the original diff? the rear of the diff housing can be unbolted, if this helps to answer my questions. thanks.

Go and drive another of the same model at a car yard/out of tradingpost. Pretend you are looking to buy one ;) you can then see if its the same.

2) LSD would be genuine.

3)
a) chanign diffs - PITA job, but not really hard if your just doing a straight swap.
b) changing diff centers, is a different story.. Thats a bitch of a job.

From memory 2.8 and 3.0 l hiluxes (not factory turbo 3.0) sit at about 3000rpm at 100kph I'd say that it is normal to get a 4cyl to perform to any degree.

I've got a 99 3.2 diesel and 100kph is a tad under 3000 rpm in 5th gear. Mine has an LSD which works great after 11o ooo kms, I read that they were fitted as standard fom mid 98 but can't confirm this as I cxan't remeber where I read it.

I have a 97 Rodeo 2.6L petrol. It sits on 2900 rpm in 5th gear at 100 km/h. I think you will find that all of these type of utes do. They are lower geared than wagons as they are meant to be workhorses.
