Hi All,
I would like to highlight the Bush Telegraph number in Victoria 132 874.
Four Wheel Drive Victoria is promoting this facility through the club network. It is a system based on the Neighbourhood Watch program model, and has been set up by Park's Victoria.
The Bush Telegraph allows you to ring in with all the right details rego, etc of persons who are causing problems in the bush... camping areas, tracks, leaving rubbish, etc.
There is no doubt that irresponsible people are causing the majority to suffer with loss of great spots.
If we donot act to supervise/police our own unfortunately the reality is that someone else will solve the problem in a more dramatic way.
The danger is that people having a bit of fun and burning up some energy will probably get roped in.
This program if adopted by all states would certainly have an impact, meanwhile those responsible for damage might behave a lot more differently in Victoria as Hot Line is up and running.
Regards
Joe

Its been posted here a few times. but good to repost it for newbs.

One issue that was brought up at our club meeting about this BTele, is that you have to be willing to go to court in person to be the 'evidence' if anything is going to happen.

I can see that becoming an issue, with revenge attacks etc.

YMMV

Absolutely truckster, and the dudes usually doing it are angry who cares kinda people with 5 teeth. Doing the right thing sometimes gets you a smack in the gob...

Not speaking from experience, but work in law and know of witnesses getting attacked and/or threatened over the most minor things...

Well I guess it's going to be each individuals chioce. If everone decides to do nothing, then the potential for our recreation to be further curtailed is real.
No pain no gain.

On reflection the area that concerns me is touring in the wet.
We drop pressures to lessen damage to tracks, but if it's real wet you cannot help but create ruts.
Are we facing a new culture where this type of activity is seen as causing damage and not responsible?
I'm sure many of us have enjoyed the challenge of driving in difficult muddy conditions.
What do others think.

Hi Eric,
As I understand it this is a Park's Victoria program. Encouraging park's managers in other states to take up a similar program is where it's at I guess.

Never approach the people and tell them to stop - well you can but don't get stuck in an arguement - especially if they arebleep. Photos are the best thing. Don't confront them, pass info such as rego, descriptions, time, place etc down and also photos of damage - pass it onto authorities. They can follow up and usually leads to a bust, but some times they can take it to court but usually this is not the case.
Do it bust these idiots.

Truckster had a fellow ring me who was on one of our trips and happens to be a member of the club and it was brought up at the meeting.
The offenders were given a stern warning that its not the way the club does things.
I am still waiting for the club president to reply as he said he would.
The funny thing is I know the president but he doesnt know me.
If you know what I mean

All the best
Eric
