Hi everyone,
Some of you know I left a post couple of days ago about drama with
park lights, I have managed to fix it. But now I have 0.7Amps of current flowing from the battery when everything is switched off. I don't have any devices in the car that may draw that kinda current in the off state. Except CD player memory, but again the should'n be even close to 0.7A. Has anyone measured discharge currents? What is the vale that falls in to "normal" boundaries.
Thanx

Place your meter in series, like you've done, and systematicly pull each fuse till it stops draining.

Haven't measured
mine in the TD 99 Jack but there is a constant drain - I put it down to a few things like security and radio memory etc. - might measure it at some stage.

Dragan,
Did you see my post 16312 maybe it's the same thing. I also have that fog light switch but it has been disconnect and I haven't checked where the other end leads too.
Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on this post.
Cheers
R.

Hey Dragan,
0.7 amp or "700 milliamps" is definitely WAY to high for everything off state. Quick calculations - most AVERAGE 4x4 batteries have a capacity of around 70 " amp hours" - that is you can draw 1 amp from the "bank"(battery ) and theoretically it will last around 70 hours. Now most used (read 12 month or more)old batteries, this rating falls to around 50 Amphours. (a/H). so back to the stinkin math - 50 a/h, (probable average capacity in your "bank") , draw 700mA = about 71 hours. WOULD you leave your car knowing the battery would be DEAD flat in under 3 days ??????? Now lets talk starter current - similar to a winch, starter draws Huge amounts of current for a Terrano , I'd guess about 250 - 300 AMPS cold. more stinking math 50 A/h, 300 amps thats .15 of an hour?? - thats from a fully charged battery.
OK, enough chalk and talk, typical discharge current would be between 50 to 100 milliamps. ( 0.050 to 0.100 amps)
Pulling fuses 1 by 1, MAY help but ( And I hate the expense too,) i'd really reccomend an autoelec, If your fault is something gone High resistance to ground, that slowly ( or quickly) turns to LOW resistance to ground, on the Battery side of the fuse, - you'll be saying more than flamming terrano, - You'll be seeing one.
Not trying to worry you Dragan, just my 15 yrs experience in the trade -
Cars do catch fire....
Hope you find your gremlin, and it doesn't cost you too much!!
Jarrod.
P.s., get on to this one, continually flattening a battery that need a jump starts all the time WILL severly reduce it's life ( reduces how much capacity you can put in the "Bank"

Mate, I don't want to quote the obvious, but I hope the measurement was taken with the doors shut (there is usually an interior light!!) saw an auto elec chase this current loss for a few hours before putting him out of his misery!!

0.7 Amps wouldn't be out of question as the coil current for the fog lamp relay depending on the brand. I am assuming it's one of the 30A Bosch look alikes.
They can be wired wrongly and still appear to function. ie. Switched power to one side of coil, other side of coil to the accessory they are supposed to be running and then to gnd from the accessory. They will work in a fashion. Lights generally not as
bright as they could be etc.
Make sure it's wired right. Is the relay warm to touch compared with other relays around the vehicle when it's been all shut down for an hour?
I recently went chasing a problem on a mates winch comp vehicle and both the 30A relay harnesses for an electric pump were wired differently to the instructions straight from the box. It worked but it wasn't pumping effectively. Soon fixed it but I'm glad I knew what I was looking for - it would have taken a long time to find otherwise. You ought to be able to rely on a new harness and the instructions.

with fridge and battery sensor's etc connected as traveling I then loose 70 Millieamps.

mine one was very low on acid level and drainind the other not able to start after 2 days.Another check would be the earth stap condition and mountig point.Again obvious safty issues with battery gasses and acid splash!
Good Luck
