What is the feelings of the trusted readers of the ZR36 Hankook tyres fitted to a Triton for a trip down the Oodnadatta Track, Strzlecki track to Camerons Corner in April 03. Then to Victoria, grampians and back to Alice up the highway.

If I was to fit the above spare tyre to a rim located on the bull bar would this restrict air flow hence not give sufficient cooling for the motor. The vehicle is a v6 Triton, air conditioned.

Also if I was to buy a good 2nd hand non genuine rim would this be ok and wouldn't impede cooling of brakes etc as new genuine rim is $650 each!!!

Your views will be appreciated, Thanks Phil

Phil, I would imagine that it would restrict airflow. I had a similar problem to overcome with my Hilux. I ended up fabricating a swinging carrier that bolts onto the rear bar. As I wont be towing, the carrier has a foot on it that slides over the tongue of the towbar so as to use the towbar to carry most of the weight of the carrier and tyre. cheers, Sam.
