I am currently with iHug (ISP), and they give me 10MB Freespace for my homepage.
I am going to fill this up big time, and the pricing structure to have more space is designed so that you in effect...... don't.

I am thinking of signing up to .mac, which will give me 100MB 158.00 AUS$.@ annum. Is this good value for server space? Bearing in mind I still will stay with my Dial Up ISP $25.00 @ month unlimited.

I don't think I want to have a registered domain name, so the .mac prefix will be fine.

I wish for my page to be around 400 photo's @ 50 - 100 KB each which will occupy around 35 MB.

What are, or what have, the rest of you done to host large pages?

Cheers

I don't know what the monthly rate for iHug is but there are a few other servers out there which charge around the $30.00 per month for internet service and allow up to 35meg free web space. Why don't you shop around. I think $158 for 100meg is a bit pricey when you can get a lot on 30meg. That's all I've got on mine & I've got alot on it with plenty of space still left. Cheers.

People probably don't realise the extra's you get with .Mac, Namely Backup and anti virus software, seemless integration with iPhoto etc to make publishing the photos fool proof.

Only other issue with .Mac is it is US based, so slower reponse times when viewing the site.

Truckster,

You seem to be the guy to talk to for this stuff. I am looking into putting up a web page for Rodeos. Just tech tips and photos etc. Any thoughts on a good programme to use for a first timer?

I want to do it properly. Not using Geocities or the like with all that advertising.

Thanks.

You can use your own ISP webspace.

10 meg will create a killer webpage. depends on how many 1000's of images you want. Text files are usually only 5k!
eg
http://www.gqpatrol.com/bodylift/index.htm
The text for this page is only 3.06 KB (3,141 bytes) as there are no images.

for software try Homesite 5, Hot Dog, or even use Geocities to create it with their 'homebuilt' editor, then copy the code to your own ISP :)

Theres a 102348029384039840 web editors out there, just depends if you wanna pay for it or not. I dont :)
