G'day guys. We are looking at purchasing a camper trailer to do the big Cape trip from Vic in 06. Some manafacturers say that springs are better and other say Arko Would love to hear from those who have realy been there and done that so as to be able to make a decision based on peoples experience, not some sales pitch. Thanks.

G'day Graeme,

Mate, we spent ages trying to decide on a camper, finally bought a Wandering
Star - Nomad. WA mob make them 9362 6996 is their contact - top operators.

I believe they export their trailers east and they are sold under another name over that way.

We opted for Leaf spring, without shockies, been across OZ via Trans Line Birdsville/Oodnadatta Tk, Cape York OTL etc, Development roads & back via Plenty Hwy & Grt Central Rd.

Not a problem for the entire trip, running the right (lower) tyre pressures was prob helpful on the trailer to help absorb some of the punishment.

Leaf springs are reliable, relatively easy to repair if a failure should occur and are less prone to sag due to uneven load in trailer (as can occur with independent susp trailers)..

hope this is of assistance

cheers

Yep, leaf springs, the only way to go.
Building my own camper, fitted with HZ75 H/D rear springs.

Yep , with Baz. I have 7 Leaf Eye to Eye rebound springs on my CT.

Partly though , depends on the weight of the CT.

The bigger and heavier you get , the Alko style , independent suspension , with coils and shocks ARE probably the way to go.

Mine came from Simon Heard Canvas in Shepparton.

Leaf, easy to fix on the side of the road, get bits anywhere. Can make do with some improvising if you need to.

Try Southern Cross Canvas in Melb
