G'day EOers,

I have bought a portable DVD player and the instructions (someone has to read them) say that

"As the voltage range of the car power source is 10~15V, the car adaptor cannot be used for battery recharging.".

You can still play it off the car adaptor, just not recharge it. Seems to detract from the portability bit for mine.

Does that make sense? It seems that an inverter is needed, but wondering if there are other options?

Hi Eric,

Still here... not been to a meeting for a while though - bad timing.

I was more curious why going direct from battery was OK to run the thing, but not charge it.

I bought a 7" Shinco from Strathfield for about $360. Haven't used in anger as yet. But so far, not bad if you have good eye sight.

What voltage does it run at? Many laptops run 17 - 19 volts and have a similar problem, except if you buy a Jaycar voltage converter for $89, will power up to 19 volts so should charge the player when not in use as well as run it when in use.

Almost forgot, you could also pop down to Aldi Supermarkets (www.aldi.com.au), tomorrow and pick up a 300W inverter for $59, this should charge the unit
