Hi Austravel

I think there are a few on here that have them and some custom built ones also.

We have just ordered ours today after researching it for the past 6 months.
Make sure you ring/email Rick or Phil and ask all types of questions, we did.
They are currently looking at a new 5ft extension feature on the existing tent and should know in the next 2 days if they intend to go ahead with it.
Remember what works for one may not work for others, this type of setup will work for us.

Thanks Tripp'n,

I wanted one but they are just to far away for us. I checked out getting one transported but cost and associated problems you can have with transport changed my mind. I hope to have one built here, not the same as this type but similar. They were very helpfull when we considered getting one but I doubt they'd be willing to answer the question I have. I want to find out what size and wall thickness SHS they use for the lifting points and that of the slide in section on the top of the jack.

Hi Austravel

If you're in Brissy the only place where we found here that would build anything like it was Tosca Industries at Geebung.
They did a nice unit but almost $9,000 just for the box (with bigger door openings too), full length fridge slide and that was all, no tent etc
We got a price on that and tent was $3,200 (cheapest) from a place at Virginia I think.

If you are not in a rush you can wait until we get ours to get the info you require in 2 months time from hubby.

Thanks for the offer but we hope to have it built in the next month to 6wks. The tent price is similar to what we found but got a quote for $5k for the camper with draws and fridge slide. Now just need to iorn out the finer points.

Thanks again.

Hi Austravel

Hope all goes well with it...keep us posted will you...as well as a pic of it too if you can.
We also could get one built for $5,500 inlcuding full length silde, higher door openings and larger sleep area.
But this was his first attempt at it so we didn't want to take any chances.
We also had to get it power coated, so yet another cost so we decided to go with a proven product. (plus I get a bit of a bit of a holiday)

Aus..

The issues and nightmares of getting one from interstate etc + being freighted are many.

If it doesnt fit, or isnt up to your satisfaction, you have to send it back at large costs, and if this happens 2-3 times you would hang yourself.

Get one made locally, the advantages are massive. You can also ask for personalization of the items, EG longer zipper/different this that the other.

YMMV

Hi Truckster

Yes, we too didn't like the idea of it being freighted (all that can and probably would go wrong) so we have chosen to go down and pick it up.
They have instructed hubby on where to take the required measurements from so as to avoid trouble.
We saw 4 carryme's at various places on our past holiday and one on the southside in Brissy that we actually went and saw when we first started looking at them, so we know what type of product we are getting.
We're not anticipating any trouble with it......buuuuuut.....fingers crossed just incase.....lol :)

Yes this is what worried me, Thought about travelling down but think it would cost close to $2k extra in fuel etc so am hoping the first one built here won't just be the proto type. Always a chance but we'll soon see.

Ask them if they have any photos, or actual units you can check out before you hand over your thousands.. once they have it, it can suck with some companies to get satisfaction.

Hi Austravel, Could you put me on the list of people who want to see pics of your camper? Slowly sorting one out for the Hilux.
Cheers, Wayne

Hi Wayne,

No dramas. At the moment the best bet is for you to look at some of the sites I've used to base my camper on. Also John Renyard (on this forum) among others has been very helpfull with photographs of his which is a different version. Check with John and if he's fine with it I can send you the photo's of his set up. Another person who has been a great help is selling one in the trader section of this forum. It would have suited us perfectly and has many extras but I'm afraid it's to far away for us to look at. Depends on what your after and were you are, it might suit you.

I designed mine while up in the Gulf in June based on the Telstra style canopy. When I came home I did some web searches and found that a company in SA actually makes pretty much what I'd sketched up. Again to far away. So mine will look similar to the Candy Canvas version with some ideas from John's and the Telstra versions.

Candy Canvas's site is http://www.candycanvas.com.au/

Mine will take at least until Christmas to be finished but will keep you in mind. The hardest thing is to work out the steel sizes to make sure you don't have something that weighs a tonne but not to light so it will fall apart.
